The sustainable integrated nickel mining and processing technology company on Obi Island, Harita Nickel, distributed 26 sacrificial animals to celebrate Eid al-Adha 1445 H/2024 AD.
Harita Nickel's Head of External Relations, Latif Supriadi, said that the distribution of sacrificial animals is routinely carried out every year as a form of expressing gratitude and showing the company's concern for the communities around its operations.
"Through this year's Eid al-Adha, Harita Nickel wants to share happiness with the community, especially those around our operations, so that they can directly experience the benefits of the company's presence. Hopefully, this activity can strengthen our relationship with the local community," said Latif on Thursday (20/6/2024).
Latif further stated that all the sacrificial animals had been handed over before the Eid al-Adha celebration, which falls on June 17, 2024. Specifically, 18 cows were distributed to villages within Harita Nickel's operational area on Obi Island, which are spread across three sub-districts.
"The sacrificial animals were handed over directly to the imams, the Islamic religious leaders in each village, witnessed by elements of the local village government," he explained.
Meanwhile, he added, 8 other cows were handed over to people in Labuha City, South Halmahera, and Ternate City.
Harita Nickel's concern for the community, especially on Obi Island, has received appreciation from various parties. One of them, Ishak La Puasa, a religious leader in Soligi Village, expressed his thanks to the company for distributing sacrificial animals to the people in his village.
"We really appreciate and are grateful for the efforts that the company has made by providing these sacrificial animals. Of course, we hope that this assistance can be useful and strengthen the relationship between the company and the people of Soligi Village," he said.
Ishak also expressed his appreciation for the company's attention to the Eid al-Adha celebration in Soligi Village.
Apart from distributing sacrificial animals, it is said that the company is also present at the Ngibi arts performance, which is regularly held at the same time as Eid al-Adha. This art performance, which is regularly held every year, is an opportunity to preserve traditions and bring together residents.
This year's Ngibi Dance arts performance was held in the atmosphere of Eid al-Adha celebrations, exactly the day after the people of Soligi Village, who are predominantly Muslim, celebrated the holiday of sacrifice.
Moreover, as one of the villages closest to Harita Nickel's operational area, Soligi Village also has a unique tradition of celebrating Eid al-Adha. The animal to be sacrificed will be fed, bathed, and given perfume. Then, the sacrificial animal will be covered in white cloth and carried around the mosque three times. Only then is the animal slaughtered in accordance with Islamic religious law.
According to Ishak, this tradition has existed since his ancestors and has been passed down from generation to generation.
“This is done as a form of respect and gratitude before the sacrificial animal is slaughtered and distributed to the community. Apart from that, it is also a way to honor Prophet Ibrahim's love for his son, Prophet Ismail,” he concluded.
