On a bright Sunday morning, employees from PT Halmahera Persada Lygend (HPL), a business unit of Harita Nickel, gathered at the Activity Center. They carried cooking equipment such as spatulas, woks, and electric pots, ready to participate in the inaugural event, “Obi Masterchef” competition organized by the company.
A total of 25 teams, each comprising three members, were set to compete in creating the best fried rice dishes. The participants were given the freedom to innovate and shows their unique culinary creativity.
Amid the excitement, "Obi Masterchef" provides employees, who usually engage in demanding fieldwork, a chance to relax and unleash their creativity.
One of the participants, Tamim Murah Ismail, shared that it was his first time joining a cooking competition. “Usually, I only cook for my family at home, but this time I wanted to try a new challenge. It’s exciting to compete with colleagues,” he said with a wide smile. Along with his two teammates, Tamim, also known as Kaka Ong, aimed to create a fried rice dish inspired by his mother’s recipe.
Elsewhere, a team from the Security department was busy preparing their ingredients. Wa Ode Misna, one of the members, expressed that this event provided an opportunity to bond with colleagues beyond work hours.
“We usually work in the field and rarely have opportunities for personal interaction. This competition is a perfect opportunity for that,” she said.
As the cooking began, the Activity Center's atmosphere became vibrant. The aroma of various dishes filled the air, captivating everyone present. Some participants crafted traditional fried rice, while others ventured into vegetarian variations with local ingredients. The competition truly tested the participant's creativity.
The judges, comprising the company’s chefs and management representatives, carefully evaluated each dish. After a rigorous assessment, the top three teams with the most unique concepts and flavors were announced.
The team from Security Department emerged as the first-place winner. Their innovative fusion fried rice, made using various ingredients provided by the organizers, impressed the judges.
“We never expected our team to win the competition,” Misna said on behalf of her team. “Initially, our intention was just to have fun and spend our day off productively,” she added.
Junaidi Arief, Superintendent HRGA of PT Halmahera Persada Lygend and the event organizer expressed his gratitude to the employees for their participation. “We hope that the Obi Masterchef competition can enhance our sense of community and collaboration at Obi site,” he stated.
Even after the competition ended, the solidarity among the participants remained strong. They savored each other’s dishes, sharing laughter and stories. This cooking competition not only fostered a productive work environment at Harita Nickel but also provided a space for employees to innovate while enhancing their connections.
