Harita Nickel officially concluded the 2025 National Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Month with ceremonies held across its business units on Obi Island on February 12. While the event series has ended, the company’s commitment to workplace safety continues. Harita Nickel remains dedicated to strengthening OHS culture and enhancing safety standards to create a safer and more productive work environment.
Ngainur Rofiek, Head of Mining Engineering at PT Gane Permai Sentosa (GPS), emphasized in his remarks that workplace safety is a shared responsibility. The National OHS Month serves as a key moment for all Insan Harita to enhance their capabilities in supporting the implementation of the Occupational Health and Safety Management System (SMK3), known in the mining sector as the Mining Safety Management System (SMKP).
“While the National OHS Month has officially ended, our commitment to workplace safety remains a top priority. Embedding a strong OHS culture in every operational activity is essential to ensuring a safer and more productive work environment,” Rofiek stated before the ceremony attendees, which included employees of PT GPS and PT Trimegah Bangun Persada Tbk–Harita Nickel’s business unit operating the mining sector, along with contractors.
Throughout the 2025 National OHS Month, Harita Nickel carried out various initiatives to raise safety awareness across its business units. Training programs, knowledge-sharing sessions, and routine inspections were conducted to ensure full adherence to safety standards. In addition to educational efforts, several competitions—including safety video production, OHS poster design, safety quizzes, defensive driving challenges, and emergency response drills—were held to encourage active employee participation in building a safety-first mindset.
As part of its corporate social responsibility efforts, Harita Nickel also organized a community service program in Soligi Village. The initiative included free health check-ups for students and the elderly, along with safety education programs. Key activities included vision screening for high school students, fire extinguisher (APAR) training, the Gemilang Nutrisi Program on balanced nutrition, and dental health education for elementary students. This effort underscores Harita Nickel’s commitment to fostering a healthier and safer community through proactive engagement and education.
The highlight of the 2025 National OHS Month took place on February 8 with the Bincang K3 discussion session, featuring disaster management and occupational safety expert Prof. Fatma Lestari. She stressed that implementing SMK3 in the nickel industry is not just a regulatory requirement but also a crucial risk management strategy. She also highlighted that Indonesia’s high disaster risk in industrial zones necessitates comprehensive mitigation strategies to protect workers and ensure operational resilience.
As the 2025 National OHS Month concludes, Harita Nickel reaffirms that safety is not just a regulatory obligation but the foundation of responsible and sustainable industrial growth. Moving forward, the company remains committed to continuously enhancing safety standards, strengthening its OHS culture, and expanding risk mitigation programs. By actively involving employees and surrounding communities, Harita Nickel is dedicated to fostering a safer, healthier, and more sustainable workplace.
