Building a Safety Culture: A Collective Responsibility of All Harita Personnel

24 January 2025

Occupational Health and Safety (K3) is not just the responsibility of management or the Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Team at Harita Nickel. It is a shared commitment—a culture that must involve every individual within the organization. Beyond statistics and regulations, Harita Nickel aims to convey a key message: K3 is our collective responsibility.

A safe and healthy work culture can only be achieved when every employee actively participates in implementing programs, standards, and work guidelines. This message aligns with the theme of Bulan K3 Nasional 2025, which focuses on Strengthening Human Resource Capacity to Support the Implementation of the Occupational Health and Safety Management System (SMK3) for Increased Productivity.

In 2025, Harita Nickel is adopting a more in-depth and strategic approach to building a K3 culture. The focus goes beyond merely meeting compliance standards; instead, it aims to elevate safety practices beyond compliance and toward greater sustainability. By aligning business processes, enhancing internal literacy on K3, and ensuring field practices adhere to the highest standards, the company seeks to foster active participation from every individual in creating a safer work environment.

One of the key K3 cultural initiatives being introduced is the identification of 13 major hazards, summarized in the Critical Safety Compliance Protocol. This protocol is designed to map out the primary risks present at the Obi Site and ensure that every employee understands effective mitigation strategies.

Additionally, Harita Nickel is developing various new initiatives, including mental health programs and standardized K3 technical designs that are easier for all employees to understand.

To ensure the effective implementation of the K3 culture, Harita Nickel has launched the Safety Accountability Program, which measures employees' active participation in K3 practices. This program establishes specific responsibilities, especially for supervisors and higher-level personnel, such as conducting regular inspections, attending K3 meetings, and reporting potential hazards. K3 should not be seen merely as a set of rules to follow but as a core value that reflects a shared responsibility for Satu Harita, Saling Menjaga. Proper and effective K3 implementation is not just an end goal—it is an ongoing journey to cultivate a work culture rooted in awareness, care, and active engagement. Harita Nickel remains committed to aligning this K3 vision, ensuring that every individual plays a crucial role in creating a safe, healthy, and productive workplace.
