The 79th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia is a momentum for all Harita employees to reflect on the company's Core Values in order to contribute in materializing the vision of an Advanced Indonesia in 2045.
Harita Nickel's Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Director, Tonny Gultom, in his speech at the ceremony on August 17, 2024 conveyed the journey of Harita Nickel that stated as a mining company has now transformed into an integrated and sustainable nickel processing technology company.
Tonny said that from the seven pillars in this year's independence theme “Nusantara Baru, Indonesia Maju”, four of them are relevant to Harita Nickel's operational activities on Obi Island, namely economic growth, sustainability, green economy, and unity and hope.
Regarding economic growth, he explained, Harita Nickel through PT Halmahera Persada Lygend (HPL) and PT Halmahera Jaya Feronikel (HJF) continues to produce nickel processing materials, which are needed for the advancement of world civilization.
In terms of environmental sustainability, Harita Nickel's post-mining reclamation program has a large target of 30 hectares by this year. The company has also started an initiative named “Good Start from Obi” as an effort to reduce single-use plastic waste in its operational areas.
“This is an extraordinary achievement. Whereas about 10 years ago, we only focused on the nickel mining sector. However, today we are able to process nickel mining products, and even open up wider employment opportunities for local people in North Maluku,” he said.
According to Tonny, the company's success in carrying out the downstream mandate from the Indonesian government is due to the solid cooperation between all stakeholders. Especially the employees across various business units of Harita Nickel and its partners.
The key to that success, Tonny emphasized, is because every individual in Harita Nickel is convinced and believes in the company's Core Values and makes it a shared culture in their workplace, which are Humility, Achievement oriented, Respect for every individual, Integrity and Accountability.
“We can make all these achievements, inseparable from the role of every Insan Harita, who practiced all the Corporate Core Values in their daily work and contributed to Indonesia. Let's continue this good culture, and one Harita moving forward toward Golden Indonesia,” Tonny said, closing the ceremony.
In line, the Head of Mining Engineering of PT Trimegah Bangun Persada Tbk, Primus Priyanto, encouraged all Harita employees to consistently apply the company's core values in their daily work. According to him, this is an effort to realize the company's vision and mission in contributing to the nation.
“What can we contribute as Insan Harita in commemorating the Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia, of course by applying our company values. As we move the company forward, it is our collective effort to contribute towards an advanced Indonesia,” he concluded.
For information, Harita Nickel through its business units operating on Obi Island held a ceremony to commemorate the 79th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia. In addition to being held on the ground, the ceremony was also held underwater around the company's operations by involving professional divers representing each business unit. This activity is to emphasize the company's commitment to sustainable operations.
