Harita Nickel Announces the ‘Harita Gemilang’ Scholarship for Obi Island Students: Explore the Requirements Here!

Integrated and sustainable nickel mining and processing company Harita Nickel has launched the ‘Harita Gemilang Scholarship’, a program for Undergraduate- and Diploma-level students native to Obi Island in South Halmahera Regency, North Maluku Province. With this program, it is hoped that young people on Obi Island will be more motivated to continue their education to college level, thereby supporting the emergence and development of high-quality human resources in the region.

This scholarship is valid for one year (two semesters), with funding distributed per semester. In total, there will be 60 recipients of the Harita Gemilang academic scholarship, with places allocated as follows: 15 spaces on the GEMILANG Prestasi (Bachelor's Degree) scholarship; 20 on the GEMILANG Harapan (Bachelor's Degree) scholarship; and 25 on the GEMILANG Harapan (Diploma) scholarship.

A. Recipient Requirements

Applicants for the Harita GEMILANG scholarship program must fulfill the following requirements:

  1. Must be Indonesian citizens;
  2. Domiciled in and originating from Obi Island (Obi District, North Obi District, East Obi District, West Obi District, or South Obi District);
  3. Registered as active students in their respective departments/study programs in the current academic year, as evidenced by registered UKT/SPP payments (minimum accreditation B);
  4. During the scholarship period, students will not apply for academic leave;
  5. Will be well-behaved, diligent/studious, active, and demonstrate a strong willingness/motivation to succeed;
  6. At the time of registration, should be between semester II (minimum) and semester VII (maximum) for Bachelor’s studies, or semester V for Diplomas;
  7. Willing to comply with all applicable provisions relevant to scholarship recipients and other requirements;
  8. Not currently subject to academic or non-academic sanctions due to violations of the code of ethics and/or other applicable regulations;
  9. Not currently registered as a recipient of other assistance;
  10. Have a GPA (grade point average) as follows:
    a. Bachelor's Degree - GEMILANG Prestasi : GPA ≥ 3.5
    b. Bachelor's Degree - GEMILANG Harapan : GPA 3.0–3.5
    c. Diploma - GEMILANG : GPA ≥ 3.0

B. Administrative Requirements

Students who meet the above requirements may submit the following administrative documents in soft copy (e.g., PDFs):

  1. A completed registration form (Google Doc);
  2. A recent color portrait photo;
  3. Frontal view photo of house/residence (in focus);
  4. Photocopy of personal and family ID (KTP & KK);
  5. Photocopy of valid student card;
  6. Proof of UKT or SPP payment registered in the current semester;
  7. Study Result Card (KHS) signed by the Head of Section in each faculty in the current semester;
  8. Active Lecture Certificate (Active Student) from campus;
  9. Official written confirmation of no academic sanctions from each faculty;
  10. A statement letter confirming the applicant will not request leave, change study programs, and/or move to another university while enrolled on the scholarship program;
  11. A statement letter confirming the applicant is not currently receiving a scholarship from any other source for the duration of the current academic year;
  12. a. GEMILANG Prestasi:
    - Essay on "Sustainable Village Development" with subthemes covering education, health, the economy, socio-cultural aspects, and infrastructure. The essay should be a minimum of 1,000 words, formatted on A4 paper, using Times New Roman, size 11, with single line spacing.
    - Motivation letter, introducing the applicant, their family background, reasons for applying, and future aspirations. The letter should be at least 1,000 words, formatted on A4 paper with Times New Roman, size 11, and 1.5 line spacing.
    - Written plan detailing how the applicant intends to use the funds provided by the Harita Gemilang Scholarship.
    b. GEMILANG Harapan:
    - Motivation letter, introducing the applicant, their family background, reasons for applying, and future aspirations. The letter should be at least 1,000 words, formatted on A4 paper with Times New Roman, size 11, and 1.5 line spacing.
    - Written plan detailing how the applicant intends to use the funds provided by the Harita Gemilang Scholarship.
  13. Photocopy of certificates regarding non-academic achievements/rankings (if any).
  14. An active bank account with a minimum balance of IDR 200,000.

C. Scholarship Regulations

If successful in their application for the Harita Gemilang scholarship, recipients are required to adhere to the following regulations:

  1. Scholarships will be provided for 1 (one) year, covering 2 (two) semesters. Payment will be made on a per-semester basis;
  2. For the duration of the GEMILANG scholarship program, participants are prohibited from:
    a. Receiving any other scholarship and/or other similar educational assistance;
    b. Applying for leave (for any reason), changing study programs and/or moving to another university;
    c. Violating any regulations stipulated by the university where the participant is studying;
    d. Engaging in any activities that violate the laws of the Republic of Indonesia;
    e. Displaying antagonistic conduct or actions that could otherwise be deemed detrimental to the government, companies, or universities;
    f. If the participant is proven to have committed a violation as per points 2a-e, the scholarship will be rescinded and they will be ineligible to receive any scholarships from Harita Nickel in the future.
  3. During the Gemilang scholarship program, participants are asked to create a community development program that can be implemented either at the study location or in their local neighborhood (during college holidays). All activities are then documented and reported in full.
