Harita Nickel and South Halmahera Health Office Educate Kawasi Community on Infectious Disease Prevention

In collaboration with the South Halmahera Health Office, Harita Nickel recently conducted a public education session focused on preventing infectious diseases in the new settlement of Kawasi Village, Obi Island. The event aimed to raise community awareness about disease prevention and early detection.

A total of 37 community members participated enthusiastically. dr. Muhammad Iqbal Raka, Site Doctor at Harita Nickel, provided comprehensive insights into disease transmission and effective prevention methods and emphasized the importance of regular health screenings. The session also featured a consultation forum, allowing participants to discuss their health concerns openly.

During the educational session, Harita Nickel introduced the ABCDE principles as a prevention strategy, which include Abstinence (refraining from sexual activities outside committed relationships), Be faithful (loyalty to one partner), Condom use (consistent and correct condom use), Drug-free (avoiding drug use), and Education (accurate information and awareness about infectious diseases).

“Proper education and preventive measures are essential to protect yourself and others,” said dr. Raka.

Ifan Farianda, Community Development Manager at Harita Nickel, emphasized the company's ongoing commitment to supporting community health initiatives. “We hope this educational effort helps the community gain greater understanding and take appropriate preventive actions,” he added.

Additionally, Asdiana Saibi, Head of Disease Prevention & Control at the South Halmahera Health Office, highlighted the critical role of public awareness, considering the high incidence of infectious diseases in the region. “Community awareness is key to disease prevention. Through this activity, we hope residents gain valuable knowledge on protecting themselves,” she stated.

Participants also had the opportunity to undergo voluntary and confidential health screenings as part of the initiative, supporting early detection for more effective intervention.
