Welcoming the joy of Christmas, Harita Nickel employees in all business units celebrated Pre-Christmas with full solemnity and togetherness. This event was held alternately on Obi Island, starting from the PT Halmahera Persada Lygend (HPL), Obi Nickel Cobalt (ONC) and Dharma Cipta Mulia (DCM) groups on December 1, 2024, followed by PT Trimegah Bangun Persada Tbk (TBP) on December 6, 2024, PT Halmahera Jaya Feronikel (HJF), Karunia Permai Sentosa (KPS) and Obi Sinar Timur (OST) groups, on December 7, 2024, and PT Megah Surya Pertiwi (MSP) on December 8, 2024.
TBP Mine Plan Engineering Manager, Das Anton, explained, “In accordance with the theme of Christmas this year, let us return to Bethlehem to meet Jesus Christ, and continue to improve ourselves better, and make Christmas to bring a message of peace to all people, regardless of religion and ethnicity.” Every Pre-Christmas celebration at the Obi site is filled with various spiritual activities, ranging from hymns, prayers and Christmas reflections that bring profound meaning to all participants.

Different from the previous year event, this year's Pre-Christmas celebrations at the HPL, ONC and DCM groups featured a musical drama, which was fully performed by Harita's employees in these business units. “The setting is based on a story of the birth of the Redeemer in Bethlehem, followed by spiritual songs. The hope is to bring new colors, and strengthen the faith of employees who are devoted to the celebration,” said Hyuda Widiyantoro, Chairman of the Pre-Christmas Celebration Committee of HPL, ONC and DCM. 
Different at HPL, the same at HJF. Chairman of the Pre-Christmas Celebration Committee at the pyrometallurgical business unit, Gilberth Tambunan, explained that this year's celebration reflected the peace of worshipping with family at home. “The atmosphere we build is like worshipping at church in our home. Starting from the solemn liturgy, to eating with Insan Harita at the end of the service. Hopefully a little treats Insan Harita's longing to celebrate Christmas with family at home,” he said. 
In addition, this moment is also used to strengthen relationships between employees, creating an atmosphere of harmony in the midst of the company's hectic operations. Dian Kristiyanto, as Manager of Technical Support HPL and ONC, gave an inspirational message, “Let's make Christmas not just a ceremony of tradition, but a moment to renew our commitment as part of Harita Nickel, to support each other, work with integrity, and build an atmosphere of love and peace, as God exemplifies.”
 
This message is a reminder for all Harita Nickel employees to continue to prioritize the values of love, peace and integrity in every aspect of work and daily life.
 
This Pre-Christmas celebration is not only a moment to commemorate the birth of the Savior, but also an opportunity to strengthen the spirit of togetherness and kinship among employees. “With the spirit of Christmas, Insan Harita hopes to continue to make a positive contribution to the community and the environment around our operational areas. Merry Christmas and Let's Look Forward to a Blessed Year 2025!” said the Chairman of MSP's Pre-Christmas Committee, Bintang Siahaan, enthusiastically.

Pre-Christmas Spirit: Harmony and Togetherness of Harita Nickel Employees on Obi Island

The futsal court at the employee&nbsp; living quarter&nbsp;of PT Halmahera Jaya Feronikel (HJF) was filled with excitement. The cheers of the audience blended seamlessly with the resonant sound of musical instruments. That evening, a friendly futsal match between business units within the partnership of Harita Nickel and Lygend Resources was taking place.
What set the event apart was that the match, involving employees at the supervisor level and above, was presented in the style of a professional game. This included player arrivals by bus, chants and coordinated attire among supporters, and even press conferences with team managers. It felt as though one was watching the national team in action.
A moving moment occurred when the players, along with the spectators filling the stands, sang the Indonesian national anthem, “Indonesia Raya.” Rico W. Albert, Head of Technical Support at PT Halmahera Persada Lygend (HPL), expressed how touched he was to be in the middle of the arena, which featured a match between the Warrior team&mdash;a combination of HJF, PT Karunia Permai Sentosa (KPS), and PT Obi Sinar Timur (OST)&mdash;and the Apache team, comprised of HPL, PT Dharma Cipta Mulia (DCM), and PT Obi Nickel Cobalt (ONC).<img alt="C1 fun futsal hjf vs hpal 98 11zon" src="https://api.tbpnickel.com/storage/images/old/images/C1_Fun Futsal_HJF vs HPAL_98_11zon.jpg"> 
Rico noted that while employees and management usually meet in formal work settings, that night they could mingle freely and enjoy a joyful atmosphere, whether as spectators or players. Rico himself, as a representative of the management on-site, took to the field to strengthen the Warrior team’s offensive lineup. Despite this, everyone gave their best effort on the field. There was no hesitation, for example, when needing to steal the ball from a higher-ranking opponent.

“This event is very positive because it embodies the core values of Harita. Especially in building strong teamwork,” he said, emphasizing that such events should be held regularly and include not only futsal but other sports as well.

Rico also specifically praised HJF for hosting the first match and challenged HPL, which will host the second match, to make it even more festive.

Committee Coordinator Christoforus Nanda Rahardian stated that the friendly futsal match between HPL and HJF involved all departments. Regarding the match’s professional game-like concept, he noted that it was to create a more lively atmosphere.

“The spirit is not just about playing futsal but more about how everyone can participate in the activity,” said Christo, who in his daily role serves as an Employee Relations Specialist at KPS.

The match between Warrior and Apache ended with a score of 1-3 in favor of the visiting team. Apache will host Warrior for the second match, which will be held at the HPL futsal court.

Fostering Solid Teamwork Through a Friendly Futsal Competition

The sky above Pasturi, a small island amidst the waters of Kawasi, is clear. After two days of choppy waves, the sea this morning is calm. The dive team can finally carry out their activities at the blue hole&mdash;a patch of deep blue water surrounded by white sand.
On this morning (August 16, 2024), divers from Harita Nickel’s various business units are about to raise the Red and White flag beneath the sea. This initiative, part of Indonesia’s 79th Independence Day celebrations, symbolizes the company's commitment to preserving the waters around Obi Island.
Jesaya Alfredo, Marine Environment Supervisor at PT Halmahera Persada Lygend, explains that Pasturi's sandy waters are one of three points included in Harita Nickel’s coral reef restoration program. Since its launch in 2021, a total of 1,696 artificial coral reefs have been placed. These cube-shaped, hollow coral structures, made from nickel slag byproducts, have since become home to marine life as natural corals grow on them.
“Why is the water in Kadera calmer than in Pasturi?” Jesaya asks rhetorically. “That’s because Kadera is shielded by several islands, while Pasturi's waters are exposed to the open sea.”
An alumnus of the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), where he studied oceanography, Jesaya explains that waves are influenced by both weather and season. He elaborates that Indonesia’s waters experience two primary seasons: west and east. August falls within the eastern season, where the monsoon winds blow from Australia to Asia from April to October.
He goes on to describe the unique nature of Obi’s waters, which, like much of Eastern Indonesia, boast deep seas and breathtaking underwater views. More than that, Obi’s waters are particularly productive due to the meeting of two major ocean currents&mdash;the Indian and Pacific Oceans.
“This convergence is known as Arlindo,” Jesaya says, “and one of its entry points is through the waters of eastern Indonesia, including Obi. Here, you’ll find plenty of fish with high economic value, though they’re far offshore.”

Back to Pasturi, the divers from Harita Nickel’s business units have returned here several times over the past three days, determined to complete their dives. Although they could have been content with diving in Kadera&mdash;another small island near the village of Laiwui&mdash;their sights were set on Pasturi.
“Why are they so eager to dive in Pasturi?” Jesaya smiles. “Besides the stunning underwater views, the blue hole here has much clearer water.”
Remarkably, despite being near the operations of a mining and nickel processing company, the waters of Kawasi remain well-preserved. Thanks in large part to the diligent efforts of Harita Nickel’s Environmental Marine team, of which Jesaya is a key member.
The core mission of the Marine Environmental division is to monitor the waters surrounding the company’s operations. This includes regular checks on marine ecology and water quality. On the ecology front, their routine involves monitoring the growth of coral reefs and identifying the various species of fish in the area. They also keep tabs on meteorological and oceanographic conditions. As for water quality, the team conducts tests on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis.
To support these efforts, the team is equipped with advanced tools. Among them is a seawater sampling device outfitted with a CTD meter (conductivity, temperature, and depth) to measure ocean water profiles, and a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) used to inspect underwater structures like piers and pipelines, as well as aquatic environments inaccessible to divers.
“Management has been incredibly supportive, providing us with the necessary equipment. On top of that, they offer us opportunities to enhance our skills through training and certifications,” Jesaya says.
He reflects on the journey that began in 2019, noting how his role has allowed him to delve deeper into the knowledge he gained in school. He feels fortunate to be pursuing a career that aligns with his passion. For him, the sea is a vital source of life, not just for the creatures within it, but also for humans on land.
“The challenge is that Harita Nickel’s operations are so close to the ocean, which means we have to work extra hard to preserve it. But thankfully, we’ve been able to show results,” he says, expressing pride in being part of a company so committed to environmental preservation.

Jesaya Alfredo: The Guardian of Obi’s Seas

The grand celebration of Indonesia's 79th Independence Day at PT Halmahera Jaya Feronikel (HJF) was full of festivity. The stage, set up on the futsal field, became a showcase of employee creativity, featuring the local poco-poco dance, singing, stand-up comedy, and a DJ performance to close the event.
In the crowd, Heronikel crew were busy with their tasks—some handled stage lighting and sound at the Front of House (FOH), while cameramen captured live footage, and other crew members welcomed guests at the entrance.
“This is not just an HRGA event; it’s for all of us from every department at HJF, Karunia Permai Sentosa (KPS), and Obi Sinar Timur (OST),” said Christoforus Nanda Rahardian, Employee Relations Specialist at KPS and the event’s head organizer. Christo also expressed gratitude to the management teams from Harita Nickel and Lygend Resources for their support, as well as to the organizing committees from various departments who worked together to make the event a success.
The Independence Day celebration was just one of many activities initiated by the Industrial &amp; Employee Relations (IR &amp; ER) teams from HJF, KPS, and PT Obi Sinar Timur (OST). Taufik Setiaji, Harita Nickel’s Industrial &amp; Employee Relations Manager, stated that the primary responsibility of his team is to foster harmonious industrial relations between the company, employees, and the government. He elaborated that a harmonious relationship is achieved when the company operates in accordance with labor regulations, and employees fully support company policies, guided by the company's core values in achieving shared goals.
“The role of IR and ER here is to be the communication bridge between company management and employees, and between the company and the government, particularly in ensuring compliance with labor regulations. The challenge is how, as the middleman, we can remain balanced between all parties,” he explained, adding that flexible communication is essential to succeed in this challenging role.

In the field, Taufik continued, his team’s tasks are broken down into two main objectives. The first is enforcing regulations through activities such as socialization, training, and counseling. Most recently, his team initiated the confiscation of prohibited items from employee housing areas, not just as a disciplinary measure but as part of their commitment to upholding Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards.
“The second objective is employee relations, achieved through organizing events that foster a sense of togetherness between company management and employees,” he said, citing the Independence Day competitions as one example.
Agusto Riwu GA Sandy, IR Supervisor, added that his team is developing a communication and consultation platform comprising employee representatives from various departments. Named the "Justice Task Force" (Satgas Pembawa Keadilan or SPK), its mission is to help resolve employee issues, not only those related to work but also personal matters.
“For instance, issues like personal debts between employees, breakups, or even blocked ATM cards—while these are personal matters and beyond the scope of IR, they do affect work. Through SPK, we strive to find the best solutions together,” he explained, accompanied by George Tirta, IR Specialist, who added that IR’s role in SPK is as a facilitator, with personnel from various departments trained for this purpose.

Agusto mentioned the "Heronikel" brand, introduced last year, which symbolizes Harita Nickel's employees. It highlights workers on-site as more than just employees—they are "nickel heroes."The idea behind it is simple yet resonant—those working on-site are not just employees, but nickel heroes. These workers, who leave their homes and families to labor in remote, often harsh conditions, are viewed as more than just providers. They area also national heroes, key contributors in the country’s broader ambition to drive industrial downstreaming and fuel economic growth.
“To put it simply, the purpose of SPK is to build trust among employees, as we provide a platform for every employee to voice their concerns. Heronikel, and its various entertainment initiatives like Herocreative, through events that offer fun and relaxation, serve as a reward for that trust,” Agusto explained.
Taufik underscored the fact that every initiative his team undertakes is driven by one overarching goal: enhancing employee productivity. It’s not a luxury, he suggested, but a necessity in the face of Harita Nickel’s ever-growing operational demands. With eight production lines fully operational at HJF, OST progressing into its third phase of power plant construction, and KPS set to begin operations with 12 production lines by 2025, all face mounting demands.
“What we are doing is an implementation of Harita Nickel’s Core Values. A solid team doesn’t just happen—it’s built on a foundation of mutual trust. This spirit is crucial, especially as production targets leave no room for compromise,” he concluded.

Applying HARITA Core Values, IR & ER HJF Builds Employee Trust

Obi Island, home to Harita Nickel’s operations, is a place of abundant mineral resources. Beyond its waters, teeming with marine biodiversity, this island&mdash;rich in nickel&mdash;also has fertile land. Yet, despite its potential, agriculture here remains underdeveloped.
Recognizing this untapped promise, Harita Nickel, through its Community Development and Empowerment program (Pengembangan dan Pemberdayaan Masyarakat or PPM), has embarked on agricultural initiatives for local residents. The aim is twofold: to help locals achieve food independence and provide them with a steady source of income.
 
Lukmanul Hakim, Agriculture and Fishery Supervisor at Harita Nickel, plays a central role in this mission. A graduate of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences at Bogor Agricultural Institute (Institut Pertanian Bogor or IPB), he joined Harita Nickel in 2021, initially as a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) staff member. His first assignment was assisting Obi Sehati (Sentra Holtikultura dan Agribisnis Tanggap Iklim or the Center for Horticulture and Climate-Sensitive Agribusiness), a company-supported farming group that focused on growing watermelon.
 
At just 28 years old, this native of Makassar reflects on his journey. One of the main challenges he faced was aligning the visions of farmers, each with different temperaments and perspectives. Patience and effective communication were key in uniting them toward a common goal.
 
“It’s exhausting&mdash;traveling across Obi Island’s villages to provide guidance, and then having to wait months for the harvest. But seeing the results now, it’s all worth it,” said the father of three, with a sense of pride.

Three years later, Lukman’s efforts have expanded to twelve agricultural support programs, and nearly all the farming groups he and the Community Development team manage have reached a level of independence. For Lukman, this progress is nothing short of remarkable.
 
“The process was long. I didn’t imagine we’d come this far. Many farmers, who initially had very little income, now earn enough to support their daily needs,” he explained.
 
Some of the standout programs include the Obi Food Security Center (SENTANI) in Buton Village, focused on rice cultivation. Obi Sehati in Akegula and Buton Villages specializes in horticulture as well as watermelon and melon farming. Super Hortima in Laiwui Village focuses on fish farming and horticulture.
 
In Baru Village, the focus is on horticulture and soybean farming, while Jikotamo Village supports horticulture and livestock farming. In Kawasi Village, the SUTAN program is centered on local fishermen, whose catches are sold to meet Harita Nickel’s needs.
 
“Some of the harvest, such as watermelons and melons from Buton Village, and fish from Kawasi Village, is already being supplied to the company,” Lukman noted.
 
Meanwhile, other harvests are used by the farming groups for their own needs or sold within the local communities.
 
“We’re currently supplying up to 10 tons of watermelon to Harita Nickel’s site each month, and about 2 tons of melon,” he added.
 
Lukman, who recently received recognition from the Ministry of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration for his commitment to the acceleration of village development and the achievement of the Village SDGs, remains optimistic. He believes these numbers will continue to grow, in line with increasing demand from the company.
 
“With this, we want to show the existence of an active and effective partnership between the local community and Harita Nickel,” Lukman concluded.

Lukmanul Hakim: Weaving Hope for Food Sovereignty

The Cinema at the HPAL Activity Center, Site Obi, was filled with excitement and enthusiasm as over 230 young men and women from Harita Nickel gathered for the Youth Forum. This Youth Forum marked the third and final event in a series for 2024, closing the year on a high note. Under the theme ‘Satu Harita, Bergerak dan Berdampak’, this forum also celebrated Hari Sumpah Pemuda, carrying the spirit of unity, togetherness, and positive impact.
Sumpah Pemuda spirit among Harita Nickel’s youth was amplified by the presence of Anita Gathmir, a remarkable figure and founder of an SME focused on preserving and reviving Tidore’s traditional weaving, which had been lost for over 100 years.
 
Anita shared her inspiring story and brought a collection of woven pieces showcased in the first-ever fashion show on Obi Island. 8 Harita Nickel team members modeled these woven garments in a fashion show by Puta Dino Kayangan, blending local culture with modern elegance.
 
“Tidore weaving is a heritage with immense historical and cultural value. I’m delighted to introduce it to the young generation on Obi Island, especially at Harita Nickel. I hope that the spirit to preserve this cultural legacy will grow in your hearts, becoming a source of pride for us all as a nation,” said Anita Gathmir.
 
Gita Rotua Marchelia Tambunan, Finance & Accounting Staff from Harita Nickel’s business unit PT. Obi Nickel Cobalt, expressed her pride in being chosen as a model and trusted to present Tidore’s traditional weave by Puta Dino Kayangan.
 
“To be honest, this was my first fashion show in a while, and I’m thrilled to showcase this eastern pride, the traditional Tidore weave. Huge thanks to Ms. Anita for trusting me,” Gita said with joy.

Also attending the Youth Forum was SME Supervisor Harita Nickel, Windi Ashari, who shared her story of empowering women’s groups in Kawasi and Soligi villages. Her dedication has led to award-winning CSR programs that uplift the local community’s welfare through MSME development.
 
“We strive to make a positive impact in Kawasi and Soligi, especially in the SME sector. I also want to encourage my Harita Nickel colleagues to make even the smallest impact in their surroundings,” said Windi Ashari, inspiring forum participants.
 
As the Youth Forum commemorated Hari Sumpah Pemuda, it highlighted the importance of collaboration among young people across all business units at Harita Nickel. Despite diverse business units, each youth member is united as part of Harita Nickel and encouraged to collaborate.
 
At the event’s conclusion, participants left the forum with renewed energy, carrying powerful messages from the speakers and invaluable experiences. Anita and Windi both hoped this forum would be the first step for Harita Nickel’s youth to keep moving forward, continue to create something, and always inspire others.
 
“Harita Nickel has provided a platform for self-actualization for me and everyone here through the Youth Forum. This platform also proves the spirit of impactful movement and collaboration for all of us at Harita Nickel,” Windi Ashari concluded.
 
As the 2024 Youth Forums comes to an end, Harita Nickel reaffirms its commitment to supporting youth development within the company and the surrounding community. Through collaboration, cultural preservation, and sustainable leadership, Harita Nickel hopes to make a greater positive impact on Indonesia and the world.

The Spirit of Sumpah Pemuda  Ignited at the 2024 Harita Nickel’s Youth Forum

On Sunday, January 21, 2024, despite overcast weather, nearly 200 employees from PT Halmahera Persada Lygend, a business unit of Harita Nickel, participated in the Run for Fun and Color Run event at the Living Quarter area. This initiative was designed to strengthen solidarity and promote a collective commitment to enhancing health and safety within the workplace.
“This event aims to foster a sense of belonging and mutual care among employees. We hope that in the future, if unsafe conditions arise in the workplace, colleagues who have established strong bonds will feel empowered to remind one another,” stated Bambang A. Kader, Safety Trainer and Chairman of the Committee.
Bambang emphasized that creating an engaging environment is essential for making education about safety culture both accessible and enjoyable, rather than intimidating. He believes that a robust safety culture will not only improve employee well-being but also enhance the overall productivity of the company.
In addition to running, employees participated in Zumba sessions, which were well-received by attendees. “The event was lively, especially with a Zumba instructor leading the activities. The light rain merely added to the excitement as we engaged in energetic movements together,” remarked Courtney Juditha Rumampuk, known as Sisi.
On the same day, employees from PT Halmahera Jaya Feronikel, another business unit of Harita Nickel, participated in a Healthy Walking event and a Beach Clean-up at Kawasi Beach. During the clean-up, the team successfully collected over 50 garbage bags, amounting to nearly 2 tons of waste.
Hendri Saputro, Occupational Health and Safety representative at Harita Nickel, emphasized that the recent Healthy Walking and Beach Clean-up event reinforces the company’s commitment to promoting a culture of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) beyond its operational areas.
“This initiative demonstrates that we can engage in physical activity while also preserving the environment. This is the message we want to share with the community. We believe that a healthy environment fosters a healthy society,” Hendri stated.
He further noted that raising awareness about environmental cleanliness, particularly along coastal areas, could drive economic growth through tourism, which remains an untapped potential for Obi Island. “For fishing enthusiasts, this island could become a prime destination for anglers, with opportunities to catch Grouper and even Giant Trevally,” he added.
This year’s National OHS Month serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining sustainable business practices alongside the welfare of communities living near industrial areas. With a focus on mitigating workplace accident risks, all employees at Harita Nickel are working together to cultivate a strong OHS culture that benefits both the organization and the surrounding community.

Inside Looking Out, Outside Looking In: Two Strategies by Harita Nickel to Enhance Health and Safety in the Workplace

In celebration of Indonesia's 79th Independence Day,&nbsp;<a href="http://tbpnickel.com" target="_blank">Harita Nickel</a>, through its business unit <a href="https://tbpnickel.com/about-us/subsidiaries/refinery" target="_blank">PT Halmahera Persada Lygend (HPL)</a>, organized a Fun Walk on Sunday, August 4, 2024. The event, held at the PT HPL Living Quarter, was open to all employees and is part of the company’s annual initiative to mark Independence Day while strengthening team cohesion and fostering a sense of national pride among staff. 
The Fun Walk, which commenced at 6:00 AM local time, saw enthusiastic participation from hundreds of PT HPL employees across various departments. The route covered the Living Quarter area, offering scenic views of Obi Island’s natural landscape.
In addition to the Fun Walk, the company hosted a series of activities to further energize the Sunday morning event. These included a health exercise session and traditional games such as a cracker-eating contest and marble races. The festivities were lively and competitive, with the crowd cheering for their colleagues. 
"The event was a lot of fun! Even though this isn’t my first time participating in such company activities, it always feels enjoyable," said Agretia Griani Tiara, one of the enthusiastic Fun Walk participants.

Earlier, on Sunday, July 21, 2024, another Harita Nickel business unit, <a href="https://tbpnickel.com/about-us/subsidiaries/smelter" target="_blank">PT Megah Surya Pertiwi (MSP)</a>, hosted a similar event, attended by hundreds of PT MSP employees, underscoring the company’s commitment to fostering team spirit and celebrating the essence of independence.

In addition, various traditional and unique competitions, such as Dump Truck (DT) pulling contests, kite festivals, and poco-poco dances, were held across Harita Nickel's business units operating on Obi Island.

Harita Nickel Celebrates Indonesia’s 79th Independence Day with Fun Walk at Its Operational Site

Each month, PT Halmahera Persada Lygend, a business unit of Harita Nickel, hosts Management Walkthrough (MWT) activities. In this activity, Harita Nickel and Lygend Resources Management went directly to see the situation and greet employees on-site.
The last MWT on August 26, 2024, was divided into two groups. The first group, led by General Manager Shi Wentang, along with the Technical Support Manager, Dian Kristiyanto, inspected the area from the Acid Plant to the Processing Residue Facility. Meanwhile, the second team, led by Xing Jinglong, Department Head of Production, and Technology Manager Jin Tao, focused on the Sulfate Nickel Plant and the Technology Laboratory.
This activity provides an excellent opportunity for field employees, known as Insan Harita, to engage directly with Top Management about various technical issues and Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) aspects.

“Alongside our management responsibility to continuously enhance operational excellence, we hope that the MWT activities will also offer moral support and communication channel to our employees,” explained Dian Kristiyanto, fondly known as Kris.
Kris added that the activities showcase the collaboration among nations at the Obi site, where Harita Nickel and Lygend Resources work together to improve operational excellence in a competitive nickel industry. The MWT reflects Harita Nickel's core values: Humility, as leaders assess areas for improvement in the field; Teamwork, seen in collaboration across departments and nations; and Accountability, where every MWT record contributes to collective improvement. Participants are encouraged to embrace evaluations and remain open to positive feedback.
During the MWT activities, the security department is also involved in assessing safety aspects to ensure that the work environment and company assets are secure.

“Building a strong HSE culture requires commitment from everyone, including management. The records from the MWT will be shared with all relevant parties, and follow-up actions will be monitored regularly,” added Kris.
Gatra Pinem, Business Control Improvement Manager, noted that the MWT is a key element of the Continuous Improvement spirit at Harita Nickel. “The MWT allows us to evaluate and improve our operational processes directly. By involving management and various departments, we promote continuous improvement and ensure that every step positively impacts the company,” explained Gatra.

Gatra added that through MWT, management also conducts evaluations on the implementation of 5S principles (sort, set in order, shine, standardize, and sustain) by directly observing operations in the field. These 5S principles serve as a critical foundation for Harita Nickel’s continuous improvement process, driving operational excellence across the board.

Management Walkthrough: Synergy to Improve Operational Excellence at Harita Nickel

Many professionals start their careers with small steps, but not all manage to jump to higher steps quickly. Novianda, a young professional who began his journey as a Chinese translator at Harita Nickel, was among the lucky ones.
Novi's career journey began in 2019, when he joined PT Halmahera Persada Lygend, one of Harita Nickel's business units, as a translator in the Warehouse Department. His main duty is to ensure that communication between local and foreign workers goes smoothly. With a strong background in Chinese, Novi is a valuable asset for the company.
“I initially found this position as an opportunity to gain work experience. But then I realized that there are lot things to learn and develop here,” he revealed.
Novi's performance did not go unnoticed by his superiors and the company. A year later, he gained new responsibilities as a Foreman in his department. According to him, his role transition from Translator to Foreman was not without challenges. From administrative work, he began to get involved in leading a small team in the field.&nbsp;
“I have to learn a lot about team management and day-to-day operations. Fortunately, since becoming a translator, I am also required to be able to support operational activities,” he said. 
 
Previous experience involved in warehouse operations is an advantage for him. With a high dedication and commitment, Novi managed to show effective leadership and ensure efficient operations. As a result, his career continued to climb. After two years as Foreman, he has now been promoted to Supervisor. In his new position, Novi is responsible for broader operations and leads a larger team. Unmitigated, the total personnel in his team reached 200 people. It consisted of a foreman, translator and administrative staff, to operators and crew.
“We support from general goods, office stationery, tools to production spare parts. We have operators and crews for loading and unloading of goods from the jetty,” he explained.
With the demands of high operational needs, Novi's current responsibilities are not light and of course, there are also many challenges. He pointed out, that when there are large-scale maintenance activities, not infrequently there is a need for procurement of goods that were not planned. Whereas ideally, ordering goods must be at least two months in advance, since Obi is far from urban access. To get around this, he must find alternatives so that operations are not hampered.
He explained that his team conducts stock opname periodically to control the entry and exit of goods and their use. It is also supported by a special application connected to the relevant department, and the report can be accessed online headquarters.
“I was able to achieve this position, of course also thanks to the support of the team and the management,” he stressed.
He also told his experience working in a multicultural environment as well as his impressions of working at Harita Nickel for approximately 5 years. “It's great to be part of Harita Nickel since I can learn a lot of things here, one of which is how to lead a team with many personnel from different cultural backgrounds,” he explained.
Novianda's career journey from a Translator Staff to a Warehouse Supervisor at Harita Nickel is clear proof that with good dedication, skill, and adaptability, people can achieve greater success. 
 
“I hope Harita Nickel will continue to grow and have a positive impact on the local community, including all employees in the company,” he concluded.&nbsp;
