As part of its commitment to togetherness and the core value of teamwork, Harita Nickel’s Ternate Representative Office (KPT) Employee Gathering 2025 held its very first Employee Gathering on 10 August 2025 at Sulamadaha Beach, Ternate. Carrying the theme “Let’s Show that Harita Energy is Indonesia’s Energy”, the event became a valuable moment to strengthen relationships among employees outside of daily work routines..
The gathering was also part of the celebration for Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day. From HRGA, Security, Finance, Information Technology (IT), and Logistics to Government Relations, employees came together without position barriers, making the most of this rare opportunity to meet face-to-face.

A series of fun competitions became the highlight of the day, including a blindfolded bottle-finding challenge, water volleyball that sparked endless laughter, beach tug-of-war, and the crowd-favorite musical chairs. Some participants didn’t mind getting soaked if it meant helping their team win.

“This is KPT’s first gathering, and the enthusiasm from everyone is incredible. All the effort from the committee was worth it when I saw those happy smiles,” said Fajrin Sangaji, Event Committee Chair.

Event Coordinator Nurkhalizha Nazla Selang explained that the gathering was designed to encourage more personal interaction. “We all need a break to refresh our minds. Here, people who usually only communicate via email can chat and laugh together while enjoying the beach,” she said.

Ternate Representative Office Manager, Dedi Hermansyah, emphasized that the main goal was to build synergy and collaboration, in line with Harita Nickel’s core values. “Moments like this help us better understand each department’s strengths and uniqueness, which in turn supports the company’s operational performance,” he explained.

For employees like Nurul Sheila Abdullah, the event was more than just entertainment. “It feels completely different. I’m going home with new energy, especially since moments like this don’t happen often,” she shared.

The excitement reached its peak with the door prize draw, welcomed with applause and cheerful shouts. With the calm blue waters of Sulamadaha in the background, employees went home not only with gifts but also with a stronger sense of togetherness.

Keeping Synergy and Collaboration Alive, Ternate Representative Office Holds 2025 Employee Gathering

Working in the mining industry is not easy, especially when it involves environmental responsibility. For Bobby Loys Lengga, Environment Superintendent at PT Halmahera Jaya Feronikel (HJF), it means ensuring every process runs according to regulations, transparently, and accountably.
On a daily basis, Bobby handles often-overlooked matters, ranging from environmental documentation and monitoring water and air quality to waste management, as well as ensuring timely reporting obligations to the government. He is also involved in internal and external audits and oversees the implementation of critical documents, such as the Environmental Impact Assessment (AMDAL), to ensure they are not just kept on paper.

“My job is not only to comply with regulations but also to ensure operations do not neglect social and environmental responsibilities,” said Bobby. He added that protecting the environment is not the task of a single division, but a collaboration involving many parties, from operations to top management.

Bobby began his educational journey in Environmental Engineering at Mulawarman University. His educational background serves as a strong foundation for understanding environmental issues from both technical and policy perspectives.

Before joining PT HJF, Bobby built his career at a coal mining company. That experience in the energy sector strengthened his understanding that each type of mining has unique environmental challenges that need to be managed preventively rather than reactively.

“We work in an industry; there will definitely be impacts. But that doesn’t mean they can’t be controlled,” he said. “The important thing is to know the risks, what the mitigation measures are, and take responsibility if something needs to be fixed.”

According to Bobby, the biggest challenge is not technical. Rather, building environmental awareness among fellow employees is more complicated. He said rules can be made, but if people are indifferent, nothing will work.

“Building a culture is difficult. But little by little it can be done, as long as it is consistent. Education must be ongoing,” he said.

He believes that continuous education and a persuasive approach are key to fostering a sense of ownership toward a sustainable working environment. For Bobby, working on Obi Island is not just about a career, but also about contributing to a region that is an important part of the eastern Indonesian ecosystem.

“We want to show that industry can also be part of the environmental solution, not just a source of problems,” he said.

He hopes that in the future, environmental awareness in the industrial sector will continue to increase. “I am optimistic, especially seeing the enthusiasm of the younger generation who are increasingly concerned about sustainability issues,” he concluded.

Bobby Loys Lengga’s Role in Building a Culture of Environmental Care

In every successful operation, there are people who work quietly behind the scenes, ensuring everything runs without a hitch. At Harita Nickel, one of those key figures is Rifaldi “Bang Atta” Duwila, a name that has become familiar to many Insan Harita traveling in and out of Obi Island.
With his unmistakable voice, friendly demeanor, and signature sense of humor, Bang Atta is a regular presence at the ports of Kupal and Babang and at Oesman Sadik Airport in Labuha. Since 2019, he has been a cornerstone of the transport logistics team. First as a driver, and now as Foreman of the Labuha Representative Office (KPL).

“Every day is like solving a puzzle. I monitor everything: ship schedules, flight arrivals, the number of passengers, and available vehicles. If even one piece is missing, it could disrupt the whole system,” Atta shares.

Leading a team of four drivers, Atta is responsible for ensuring safe and timely travel for thousands of employees. But his work doesn’t pause, even on holidays. “One year, I had just finished the Eid prayer when I had to rush to Kupal Port; there were employees who needed urgent transport to the Obi site,” he recalls.

But to Atta, such moments are part of the job, a reflection of duty and devotion. He is quick to share credit with his team. “I can’t do the job alone. The KPL crew is exceptional. They know when to move fast and always act with compassion,” He says.&nbsp;

That spirit of service has made him a well-loved figure among employees. Hamdan Taher from PT Halmahera Persada Lygend (HPL) notes that Bang Atta is a constant presence during each leave cycle. “You always see him at the port or airport. Occasionally, he even speaks a bit of Mandarin to help our colleagues from China,” Hamdan says.

Bang Atta is a clear example that every role, no matter how small it may seem, can have a big impact on keeping the company running. In the midst of the nickel downstreaming industry in North Maluku, Bang Atta acts as a conduit between the diligent efforts of Harita Nickel employees and their yearning for their homeland. That is where the true meaning of dedication lies.

No Days Off: Bang Atta and the Heart of Harita’s Transport Team

Amid the relentless pace of nickel mining and processing on Obi Island, there is one moment that the employees of PT Megah Surya Pertiwi (MSP) eagerly anticipate: mealtime at the company canteen. More than just a place to refuel, the canteen is a refuge. It’s a space where exhaustion dissolves into camaraderie, and each plate served carries a touch of warmth amid the daily grind.
By dawn, the MSP canteen is already stirring to life. Workers shuffle in, some rubbing the last traces of sleep from their eyes, others pausing to exchange a few words with colleagues before the day’s labor begins. The air is thick with the scent of steaming rice and freshly cooked dishes, an unspoken invitation to grab a tray and select a favorite meal.

For many, meals are simply a daily necessity. However, at MSP, dining is more than just food, it is a vital moment for rejuvenation, providing employees with the energy and comfort needed to maintain productivity and well-being throughout the demanding workday.

“The menu changes almost every day. Grilled fish, chicken satay, crispy calamari. And on certain days, you’ll even find French fries and pizza. It’s not just good food,it feels like eating at home,” says Sarifuddin Usman, an MSP employee.&nbsp;

It is this familiar, home-cooked quality that elevates the MSP canteen beyond its function as a workplace dining hall. For the employees, it is a reminder of the warmth of a family meal, a place where a simple dish can stir memories of home.

Behind every meal is a dedicated kitchen team led by Yuli Andrianto, Harita Nickel’s Chief Chef. His role has evolved from hands-on cooking to overseeing the kitchen operations.

“My priority now is ensuring that every dish meets health and hygiene standards, optimizing costs, and keeping the team running efficiently,” says Chef Yuli with quiet determination.

Like a conductor guiding an orchestra, he supervises his team, coordinates schedules, and ensures that every meal meets the highest standards of cleanliness and safety. The menu remains firmly rooted in Indonesian culinary traditions, designed to cater to the diverse palates of MSP employees.&nbsp;

His responsibilities extend beyond the kitchen. He also oversees budgeting, ensuring operations remain efficient, and mentors his staff in food safety and preparation, practices he excelled during his years in five-star hotel kitchens.

“More than just feeding people, I want every meal here to feel like coming home. Indonesian food isn’t just about taste. It’s about memory, about home, about the warmth of family that we all long for,”&nbsp; he says, glancing across the bustling kitchen.

The MSP canteen is more than a place to eat. It is a space of connection. Here, the fatigue of a long shift gives way to easy conversation, shared laughter, and often, the spontaneous exchange of ideas that fuel the company’s operations. Across its tables, it is not just meals that are served, but a spirit of collaboration that continues to thrive.

MSP Canteen: A Taste of Home, A Bowl of Warmth

In a room lined with occupational safety posters, Haryadi Ilyas quietly reviewed his agenda, fully focused on preparing the day’s priorities. That morning, he was organizing a range of activities to ensure the effective implementation of occupational health and safety (OHS) programs. As a Safety Compliance Officer at PT Halmahera Persada Lygend (HPL)&mdash;a joint venture subsidiary of Harita Nickel and Lygend Resources&mdash;his core responsibility is to oversee adherence to safety regulations and standards.
Known to his colleagues as Yadi, Haryadi began his career in OHS in 2019 as part of the Safety Field team at Harita Nickel. In this role, he was responsible for monitoring and enforcing safety protocols, ensuring that operations were conducted securely and that all personnel could return home safely at the end of each day.
 
After several years in field operations, Yadi was entrusted with a strategic position on the Safety Compliance team. His current responsibilities include leading various safety initiatives, analyzing incident and accident data, and coordinating safety audit preparations to maintain regulatory alignment and operational excellence.
 
A graduate of the Health Polytechnic of the Ministry of Health in Ternate, Yadi integrates his academic background in environmental health into his professional practice. While his career path has not followed a strictly linear trajectory, he remains confident in the relevance of his expertise&mdash;particularly in fostering safe, healthy, and compliant work environments. “Many aspects of industrial OHS are closely aligned with the knowledge I acquired during my studies,” he remarked.

Known for his adaptability and collaborative spirit, this native of Makian Island brings a strong drive and unwavering determination to his work. His career journey at Harita Nickel is a testament to how dedication and hard work can open doors to greater opportunities.
 
<h3>Leading the 2025 National OHS Month: A Defining Challenge</h3>

The year 2025 marked a significant milestone for Yadi, as he was entrusted with leading the organizing committee for the 2025 National Occupational Health&nbsp;and Safety (OHS) Month. For Yadi, this assignment brought a new and demanding set of experiences. He was tasked with coordinating a team composed of individuals from diverse backgrounds and business units&mdash;a formidable challenge, particularly since many of them had never previously worked together.
 
One of the primary hurdles was communication. For the first time, National OHS Month was being celebrated simultaneously across all business units under the Harita Nickel and Lygend Resources partnership.
 
“In the beginning, coordination was quite challenging, as we weren’t yet used to functioning as a single, unified team. However, over time, we developed an effective rhythm of communication, and we are now able to collaborate more cohesively,” he shared.
Behind the coordination challenges, Yadi recalls one particularly memorable moment during a community engagement program in Soligi Village. The activity served as a real-world demonstration of team cohesion on the ground. “During that program, we witnessed each team member’s initiative emerge naturally. The collaboration grew stronger because everyone was driven by a shared purpose,” he reflected.
 
Community enthusiasm was equally remarkable. More than 100 elderly residents participated in free health check-ups, and the villagers warmly welcomed every initiative implemented. From fire extinguisher (APAR) training and the Gemilang Nutrisi program on healthy eating habits, to dental health education for elementary students&mdash;all activities ran smoothly thanks to strong coordination between the organizing committee and the local community.
 
The culmination of the 2025 National OSH Month featured a Safety Talk with Prof. Dra. Fatma Lestari, M.Si., Ph.D., Director of the Disaster Risk Reduction Center (DRRC) at the University of Indonesia and Vice Chair of the National Occupational Safety and Health Council (DK3N). For Yadi, the discussion&mdash;centered around "Disaster Management in the Obi Island Nickel Industry"&mdash;offered valuable insights to Harita personnel on the critical importance of cultivating a safety-first culture.
 
“This event is more than a celebration&mdash;it’s a concerted effort to build a supportive and safety-oriented work culture,” he said. For him, it was a meaningful opportunity to strengthen synergy and embed a safety mindset throughout Harita Nickel’s operations.

Haryadi Ilyas: Advancing Safety, Protecting Lives

Not everyone can celebrate Eid al-Fitr with their families. For many workers at Harita Nickel’s Obi Island site, the holiday was spent far from home, surrounded by the routines of work. Even so, a strong sense of togetherness, care, and shared purpose filled the day.
To keep the spirit of Eid alive, each Harita business unit held special activities. There were torchlight parades on the night before Eid, group prayers in the morning, and festive meals in the canteen. These simple efforts made the celebration feel meaningful and personal.

At PT Trimegah Bangun Persada Tbk (TBP), PT Gane Permai Sentosa (GPS), and PT Halmahera Jaya Feronikel (HJF), employees gathered for halal bihalal, an Indonesian tradition of reconciliation and forgiveness after Ramadan. This moment became more special because it was also attended by the Director of Operations of Harita Nickel, Younsel Evand Roos.
Although rain canceled the torch parade at PT Karunia Permai Sentosa (KPS) and PT Obi Sinar Timur (OST), the celebration continued indoors at Obi Café where laughter, prayer, and song carried the night.

Hartopoh Haryanto, Superintendent of HRGA at TBP, on behalf of management expressed his appreciation for the dedication of Harita Nickel’s employees to maintain optimal operational activities, even during the Ied. “We choose to be apart during Eid not because we don’t miss home, but because of our love for the people we left behind,” he said, recognizing the sacrifices made by those who kept operations running on the holiday.
Agus Margono, Superintendent of HRGA at HJF, echoed the sentiment. “We’re not just coworkers, we’re family. One Harita, standing together through joy and hardship. Eid Mubarak, from the bottom of our hearts,” he said.&nbsp;

For Rizka Aulia Rahmah, a Turbine Operation Foreman at PT Halmahera Persada Lygend (HPL), this was her second Eid away from her hometown of Bekasi, West Java.
“We support each other as fellow Insan Harita. For example, by sharing a meal together after the Eid prayer. It still feels special, even though we’re far from home,” she said.

At Site Obi, Eid was more than just the end of fasting. It showed the strength of human connection. Even in an industrial setting, the warmth of togetherness was felt. That may be the true meaning of the holiday.

Far From Home, but Close in Spirit: How Eid at Site Obi Feels Like Family

Harita Nickel operates seven dedicated terminals (special ports) supporting import-export activities as an integrated nickel mining and processing company. Jetty Persada stands out as a strategic facility, serving as a primary gateway for shipping essential materials used in electric vehicle batteries and stainless steel production to global markets.
Jetty Persada is specifically designed to facilitate smooth logistics flow within the Obi Industrial Area. Given Harita Nickel’s operations in an archipelagic region, sea routes are the primary logistical channels for the company’s distribution activities.
“Jetty Persada operates around the clock in two shifts, from 7 AM to 7 PM daily,” explained Tonny Wijayanto, Jetty Superintendent at Harita Nickel. His words vividly depict the bustling nature of the jetty&mdash;engines roaring, anchor chains clanging, and continuous loading and unloading activities.

Jetty Persada 4, one of the primary export points, plays a crucial role in annually delivering approximately 247,000 wet metric tons (WMT) of Nickel Sulfate and 32,000 WMT of Cobalt Sulfate to international markets. Yet, its function is not limited to exports alone. This jetty is also a key logistical entry point for Harita Nickel’s subsidiaries: PT Halmahera Persada Lygend (HPL), PT Obi Nickel Cobalt (ONC), and PT Dharma Cipta Mulia (DCM). Numerous materials and equipment daily pass through the jetty, linking Obi Island’s industrial complex with the global supply chain.
Jetty Persada’s operations are supported by around 460 employees, primarily local residents. “The workforce will continue growing in line with additional equipment such as cranes and loaders,” said Tonny.
According to Tonny, one of the main challenges is training unskilled workers, particularly fresh graduates. Employees must quickly adapt to the working environment while understanding safety risks. Harita Nickel routinely conducts basic skills training ("green training") for local employees. “We prioritize local workers for roles like forklift operators. However, specialized skills like crane operators are still sourced externally due to limited local expertise,” Tonny explained.

Moving forward, Jetty Persada aims to enhance operational efficiency by upholding the company’s core values, especially teamwork. Maintaining team cohesion is critical for Tonny, given the team’s diverse cultural backgrounds. “I regularly have casual conversations with my team members&mdash;not to supervise, but to ensure they feel valued and comfortable at work,” he said.
Regarding safety, Jetty Persada remains fully committed to meeting national and international safety standards. “Working at sea involves stringent regulations, and we ensure full compliance to protect both employees and the environment,” Tonny emphasized.
With a growing local workforce and high operational standards, Jetty Persada remains a strategic logistics hub for Harita Nickel, safely, efficiently, and sustainably connecting Indonesian nickel products with global markets.

From Remote Island to Global Market: Local Talent Powers Harita Nickel’s Logistics Hub

Harita Continuous Improvement (HCI) 2024 was officially closed with the awarding of the group level champion title. As a result, participants from Trimegah Bangun Persada Tbk (TBP) and Gane Permai Sentosa (GPS) clusters won first place with a proposal entitled “Duplication Efficiency in Production Sample Analysis using WD XRF in 2024.”
This proposal presents an innovation in the process of analyzing nickel laterite samples in the TBP laboratory using Wavelength Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence (WD-XRF) technology, aiming to reduce process duplication. The innovation has not only succeeded in saving costs, but also has a positive impact on environmental sustainability, increased productivity and occupational health and safety.

In second place was achieved by participants from the Halmahera Persada Lygend (HPL) cluster, PT Obi Nickel Cobalt and PT Dharma Cipta Mulia with the proposal title “Energizing GAC Waste to Eco-Efficiency Processing”, which successfully processed Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) waste into alternative fuel in power plants. Third, a proposal from the cluster of PT Halmahera Jaya Feronikel (HJF), PT Karunia Permai Sentosa and PT Obi Sinar Timur entitled “Automatic Pendulum Ferronickel Cast Machine” and fourth proposal from Megah Surya Pertiwi (MSP) entitled “Utilization of Used Cooking Oil as a Coal Fuel Substitution in Dry Kiln Ore Smelter”.

The group-level HCI 2024 champion was determined through a rigorous assessment by a jury from the board of directors and management. Roy Arman Arfandy said HCI is an initiative to encourage all the best ideas, which can impact sustainable change for the company. Innovative ideas from Harita's employees are needed to answer the challenges of an increasingly competitive downstream industry and at the same time establish Harita Nickel's position as a responsible integrated mining company.

Furthermore, Roy expressed his appreciation to the champions and participants of HCI 2024 who have contributed their best ideas for the company's progress. He hopes that these proposals from the champions representing business units can be implemented on a larger scale, and even if possible, also applied in other business units.

The group level HCI 2024 competition was attended by four participants representing each business unit of Harita Nickel site Obi Island. These four participants are each the first winner of the business unit level competition, which is grouped in TBP, MSP, HPL and HJF clusters.&nbsp;

Sukarman A Akil, representing participants from the TBP cluster, said he was proud that his team could become the first winner in the group-level HCI 2024 competition. According to him, the success of his team is inseparable from the role of mentors and facilitators who have provided support and guidance. Therefore, he dedicates this title to colleagues in his department and also all Harita employees in TBP and GPS.

Similarly, Catur Prasetyo, Group Leader of HPL cluster participants. He also appreciated the company management for providing a room for Harita employees to innovate. According to him, HCI is a real implementation of the HARITA values, including Humility, Achievement Oriented, Respect for every individual, Integrity, Teamwork and Accountability.

TBP First Champion of Harita Continous Improvement 2024 Group Level

The holy month of Ramadan serves as a meaningful occasion for Insan Harita. Continuing its annual tradition, arita Nickel once again organized Safari Ramadan, fostering strong connections between management and employees across all business units at Site Pulau Obi, as well as the company’s representative offices in Labuha and Ternate.
Safari Ramadan 2025 was held over six days, beginning on March 11 at PT Halmahera Persada Lygend (HPL), followed by PT Halmahera Jaya Feronikel (HJF) on March 12, PT Megah Surya Pertiwi (MSP) on March 13, and PT Trimegah Bangun Persada Tbk (TBP) on March 16.&nbsp;
The event extended beyond operational sites, reaching the Labuha Representative Office on March 17 and concluding at the Ternate Representative Office on March 18.

Beyond serving as an iftar gathering, Safari Ramadan acts as a platform for open dialogue and engagement between leadership and employees, reinforcing a collaborative and inclusive corporate culture.

Topan Prasetyo, Executive Business Control at Harita Nickel, highlighted the significance of this initiative, stating:

“Harita Nickel is not just a workplace, it is a home for all of us. This sense of togetherness makes us stronger, both in overcoming challenges and in achieving our shared goals,” said Topan.

He also highlighted Harita Nickel's key strategic achievements throughout 2024, including the successful completion of PT Obi Nickel Cobalt (ONC) construction, which is now fully operational with an annual production capacity of 65,000 tons of nickel. Additionally, the company’s recognition in the Fortune 100 Indonesia and Fortune 500 Southeast Asia rankings underscores its continued growth despite global economic uncertainties.

“The nickel industry is evolving rapidly, and we must maintain our competitiveness and operational sustainability while continuously innovating to remain a leading player in this sector. The diversity of our business units is our strength, and we must continue to strengthen synergy across all divisions,” he added.

Echoing the same sentiment, Dindin Makinudin, General Manager of CSR at Harita Nickel, emphasized the importance of fostering a strong sense of togetherness within the company.

Dindin also highlighted Harita Nickel’s key achievements in its Community Development and Empowerment (PPM) programs throughout 2024. The company successfully integrated 65 local entrepreneurs into its supply chain, developed women-led MSMEs with a total revenue of IDR 5.1 billion, and supported 420 farmers and fishermen through various empowerment initiatives.

As part of its commitment to preserving local wisdom and supporting Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), Harita Nickel also introduced PROPALA, a nutmeg-based processed product from North Maluku.

The aroma of traditional Ramadan delicacies fills the air, while employees gather around stalls offering a variety of takjil (light meals for breaking the fast). The Ramadan Takjil Festival 2025, organized by Harita Nickel, has become a highly anticipated event for both employees and local vendors.
For Insan Harita (Harita employees), the festival is more than just a place to purchase iftar snacks, it fosters a sense of community and enhances the Ramadan experience within the workplace. Syatriawan Lagura, an Insan Harita from PT Karunia Permai Sentosa (KPS), shared his appreciation for the initiative, emphasizing how it creates a warm and festive atmosphere despite being away from family.

“This festival brings excitement to the moments leading up to iftar. The variety of takjil available ensures that there is always something new to enjoy,” said Syatriawan. “Personally, I enjoy kue pelita, lalampa, panada, and es buah. A refreshing drink like es buah is essential after a full day of work and fasting,” he added.

Beyond enhancing employee engagement, the festival also delivers tangible economic benefits to local businesses. Rismiyati Fakaubun, a vendor from UMKM Desa Kawasi, highlighted the positive impact on small businesses in the region. Since early morning, she prepares a selection of North Maluku’s signature market snacks and fried delicacies to meet the high demand during the event.

“Alhamdulillah, since Harita Nickel introduced the Ramadan Takjil Festival, my sales have increased significantly. My products sell out daily, and my revenue continues to grow. This initiative has not only provided a great marketplace but also created a lively and supportive environment for local vendors,” said Rismiyati.

This year’s Ramadan Takjil Festival brings together 45 local vendors in collaboration with the company and contractors to provide iftar meals for more than 22,000 employees. Harita Nickel not only offers a strategic marketplace for these vendors but also ensures a comfortable and well-organized environment for both sellers and buyers.

Beyond the diverse selection of takjil, the festival fosters a lively atmosphere through interactions between employees and vendors. Many employees have their favorite go-to stalls, while some vendors become more familiar with customer preferences, allowing them to tailor their offerings. Some of the most popular items include fruit ice (es buah), traditional moist cakes (kue basah), and assorted fried snacks, which are consistently in high demand.

According to Windy Ashari, Community Development Supervisor at Harita Nickel, the initiative aims to support local economic growth while ensuring employees have easy access to quality and affordable iftar meals within the workplace.

“We want to make this Ramadan more meaningful, both for local vendors who benefit economically and for employees who can enjoy a comfortable iftar experience,” she stated.
