Building strong relationships with communities is an essential part of responsible mining. At Harita Nickel, this commitment goes beyond open communication it also means providing accessible channels for stakeholders to share their feedback, ask questions, and raise concerns.
To support this commitment, Harita Nickel has established a Grievance Mechanism that is transparent, accessible, and accountable. Through this mechanism, community members, government institutions, business partners, and other stakeholders can submit feedback, inquiries, or grievances related to the company's operational activities. Every grievance is treated seriously and managed in accordance with the principles of transparency, fairness, and accountability.

What Is a Grievance Mechanism?

A Grievance Mechanism is a structured system designed to receive, record, assess, and resolve feedback or complaints submitted by stakeholders.
At Harita Nickel, this mechanism is more than simply a channel for handling complaints. It is an integral part of the company's commitment to responsible mining practices and meaningful stakeholder engagement.
By following a structured grievance management process, the company can better understand issues arising in the field, collaborate with stakeholders to identify appropriate solutions, and continuously improve its social performance and relationships with communities surrounding its operational areas.

Who Can Submit a Grievance?

Harita Nickel welcomes feedback and grievances from a broad range of stakeholders, including:

Every submission is treated equally, regardless of who raises it. The company's priority is to understand the substance of each concern and ensure it is addressed fairly, objectively, and responsibly.

How Are Grievances Managed?

Every grievance submitted to Harita Nickel follows a clear and structured resolution process from receipt and assessment to follow-up and communication of the outcome to the complainant.
All grievances are initially received and recorded by the Community Relations team. The team then reviews each submission to understand the issue, verify the information provided, and determine the most appropriate course of action.
Where further investigation or action is required, the company engages the relevant departments or responsible teams to identify and implement an appropriate solution. Once the necessary actions have been completed, Harita Nickel communicates the outcome to the complainant and continues to monitor the case until it has been fully resolved.
This structured approach helps ensure that every concern is addressed fairly, objectively, and in a timely manner, while also reducing the potential for larger disputes. Beyond resolving individual cases, the grievance mechanism enables the company to learn from stakeholder feedback and continuously improve its social performance and stakeholder engagement practices.

Majalah Internal Harita Nickel Sabet Penghargaan PR Indonesia 2025

PT Trimegah Bangun Persada Tbk (NCKL), better known as Harita Nickel, has reinforced its commitment to sustainable mining by receiving the Change The World award from FORTUNE Indonesia. The honor was presented at the FORTUNE Indonesia Summit 2025, held at The Westin Jakarta on Thursday, February 6.
The Change The World award is a prestigious recognition given to companies that drive positive change through innovation, sustainability, and tangible social impact. Harita Nickel was honored for its nickel slag recycling initiative, transforming industrial by-products into valuable resources for infrastructure development and surrounding ecosystems.

Previously classified as hazardous waste, nickel slag has now been reclassified by the government as non-hazardous, unlocking new opportunities for reuse. The material is being repurposed for road construction within the company’s operational areas, as concrete bricks—used in various Harita Nickel’s operational areas and to build 259 homes in the new settlement of Kawasi Village—and in the creation of 1,700 reef cubes designed to support artificial coral reef ecosystems.

Additionally, Nickel slag is being repurposed as a medium for laterite soil revegetation, reducing compost dependency while improving the efficiency of land reclamation efforts.

Tonny Gultom, Harita Nickel’s Director of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE), emphasized that this innovative approach not only addresses the accumulation of slag waste but also significantly reduces land reclamation costs, saving between Rp52 million and Rp100 million per hectare. “Through this initiative, we are not only optimizing resource utilization but also reinforcing our commitment to a more responsible nickel industry,” said Tonny.

By the end of 2023, Harita Nickel had recycled 644,234 tons of slag and aims to recycle another 97,000 tons in 2024. This commitment aligns with the company’s efforts to integrate sustainability into its operations, including investing in research and technology to ensure the nickel industry grows responsibly and benefits both the environment and local communities.

Harita Nickel Earns Change the World Award from FORTUNE Indonesia

The atmosphere at Hotel Mulia Jakarta felt different on Wednesday, December 4, 2024. The difference was palpable as the Indonesia Mining Summit (IMS) 2024, a prestigious forum for the mining sector, successfully gathered key stakeholders, including government officials, associations, students, and business players. With the theme “The Vision of Indonesia's Mining Sector: Empowering Energy Resilience for Indonesia,” the event, organized by the Indonesia Mining Association (IMA), highlighted strategic issues such as energy reserves, exploration, and downstream processing in the mineral and coal subsectors.
The Chairman of the Indonesia Mining Association (IMA), Rachmat Makkasau, explained that this theme was chosen to align with the government's program and target of achieving 8% economic growth to realize the “Indonesia Emas 2045” vision.

“In the mining sector, energy is a crucial element to support these goals. For us, energy is one of the main factors to succeed in industrialization in Indonesia. We can promote investor arrivals and process mining products into batteries and other materials, but energy remains the key,” Rachmat stated.

IMS 2024 was more than just a formal gathering; it served as an open dialogue space for the government, mining companies, technology providers, and investors to share insights and seek solutions together. During the event's opening, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, delivered an optimistic message about the future of Indonesia's energy sector.

“The President's directive is clear: downstream processing in the energy sector is the path to creating added value, economic growth, and sustainable job creation,” he emphasized.

Harita Nickel, a sustainable integrated nickel mining company operating in North Maluku, also participated in IMS 2024. As of the third quarter of 2024, North Maluku's economic growth stood at 4.42% year-on-year (yoy). The province's economic growth is projected to reach between 6.35% and 10.35% yoy this year, driven by nickel downstream processing in various regions of North Maluku.

Director of Health, Safety, and Environment Harita Nickel, Tonny Gultom shared his views on the company's positive impact and sustainable efforts in Indonesia, particularly on Obi Island.

“As a sustainable integrated nickel industry in North Maluku, especially on Obi Island, we aim for Harita Nickel to have a positive impact on the communities in Obi Island, North Maluku, and contribute to Indonesia's economic growth more broadly. To achieve this, we continuously collaborate with all stakeholders, including the government, industry, and local communities, particularly on Obi Island,” said Tonny while visiting the Harita Nickel booth at IMS 2024.

Highlighting its positive contributions to Obi Island, Harita Nickel showcased products made by local micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), crafted by women from Kawasi Village, at its booth during IMS 2024. Several high-ranking Harita Nickel officials visited the booth and posed for photos, including President Director Roy A. Arfandy and Sustainability Director Lim Sian Choo.

To close IMS 2024, the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, shared strategic insights on the importance of investment in the mineral and coal sector.

“Downstream processing and supply chain deepening are top priorities. Investment in this sector not only strengthens the national economy but also drives high-value-added mineral industrialization,” he explained.

Harita Nickel emphasized that the company is not solely focused on mining operations but is deeply committed to Indonesia's future in terms of economic growth and energy resilience. With a spirit of collaboration, innovation, and sustainability, Harita Nickel continues to move forward, creating positive impacts for communities, the environment, and the industry.

Harita Nickel Reaffirms Commitment to Sustainability

PT Trimegah Bangun Persada Tbk (NCKL) also known as Harita Nickel, a sustainable integrated nickel processing company operating on Obi Island, South Halmahera, North Maluku, has recorded another notable achievement. It was awarded the Kie Raha Award 2024 from the central bank (Bank Indonesia -BI) North Maluku Representative as the Best Strategic Partner Supporting Regional Economic and Financial Assessments.
The award was handed over directly by the Head of BI North Maluku Representative Office, Dwi Putra Indrawan, to Corporate Affairs Manager Harita Nickel Anie Rahmi at an event which took place at the Bela Hotel Ballroom, Ternate, on December 3, 2024.

Interestingly, this is the fourth time Harita Nickel has received a similar award in a row from BI. This emphasizes Harita Nickel’s strategic role in supporting economic transformation in North Maluku. The awarding was also part of the Bank Indonesia Annual Meeting event which carries a theme “Synergy to Strengthen National Economic Stability and Transformation.” This theme reflects collective efforts to spur economic recovery and transformation in Indonesia.

In his speech, Dwi said that Indonesia’s economic growth, despite facing global challenges, was still able to grow and perform well enough thanks to the contribution of the industrial sector, especially nickel in North Maluku. Nickel down streaming not only encourages exports of high quality nickel to meet the needs of the global electric vehicle industry, but also becomes the main pillar of goods and services export in North Maluku, in a contribution of more than 90 percent. “In the third quarter, our economic growth grew 4,62 percent, supported by the export sector, especially nickel and its derivatives,“ said Dwi.

The Head of BI North Maluku Representative Office also expressed his appreciation to the respondents for the data collection carried out by BI. “For the support and assistance, we at BI are very grateful. We obtained factual information and input that we can formulate for policy making, especially for BI and regional governments,” explained Dwi.

Representing Harita Nickel, Anie espressed the company’s gratitude for the award given and the partnership that has continued solidly in the last four years. “We humbly thank and express our highest appreciation to BI North Maluku for assisting North Maluku’s economic growth by paying attention to the role of its contributors. Hopefully this increasingly solid partnership will bring more benefits to the land of Moloku Kie Raha,” said Anie.

Anie further conveyed that the transparency that has been conveyed to BI through various surveys conducted is an implementation of the company’s commitment to Environmental, Social and Goverance (ESG) governance.

The awarding of the Kie Raha Award 2024 was also attended by the Acting Governor of North Maluku, Danrem 152/Babullah, the Head of the North Maluku High Prosecutor’s Office, the representative of the North Maluku Chief, Danlamal Ternate, the Head of the North Maluku Regional BIN, the Mayor of Ternate, and a number of other stakeholders.

"This also simultaneously affirms that Harita Nickel is not only focused on outcomes, but that achieving a common goal must be done with full responsibility," explained Tonny in a written statement on Wednesday (December 13, 2023).

The ISO 14001:2015 certification, focusing on the effectiveness of environmental management systems, underscores Harita Nickel's longstanding commitment to implementing sustainable and responsible practices toward the environment. Harita Nickel Implements These 2 Things with International Standards

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The largest integrated economic media, CNBC Indonesia, hosted the CNBC Indonesia Awards 2023 with the theme 'Maintaining Optimism Amid Uncertainty.' These awards serve as an expression of appreciation for various business sectors and industries that have played a role in bringing positive impacts to the progress of the national economy.
In the category of Most Sustainable Nickel Company, the CNBC Indonesia Awards 2023 were presented to PT Trimegah Bangun Persada Tbk (NCKL). This recognition is given as an appreciation to PT Trimegah Bangun Persada Tbk (NCKL) for its commitment to collaborating with the Indonesian government in achieving carbon emission reductions in line with global targets.
"We express our gratitude on behalf of the company, and I am confident that this will be a catalyst for us to work even better, to contribute even more to Indonesia. From Obi to Indonesia," said Roy Arfandy, the CEO of NCKL, during the CNBC Indonesia Awards 2023 on Wednesday (December 13, 2023).
It is well known that the effort to achieve carbon emission reduction is evident in NCKL's contribution to creating products that support clean and low carbon energy. The battery industry, which supports electric vehicles (EVs), is a fossil fuel free resource.
In addition, the use of electric vehicles reduces the carbon footprint caused by vehicle emissions. NCKL is also actively reducing the use of fossil fuels as an energy source for battery manufacturing processes.
One of the power plants used by NCKL is based on solar energy. As of September 2022, NCKL has used solar panels to power 149 lights at a site with a capacity of 250 kW-peak.
NCKL also reduced the consumption of fossil fuels used in transportation equipment by incorporating a 30% biodiesel blend, which is expected to become more prevalent as a substitute for coal. The company maximizes the use of clean energy by utilizing used cooking oil for power generation, thereby reducing energy consumption by 795 GigaJoules (GJ). The reduction in air emissions is also evident in the air quality, which now complies with WHO guidelines.
Furthermore, the company has significantly decreased its reliance on fossil fuels. According to NCKL's sustainability report, the energy intensity used decreased by 82.3% to 2.1 GJ/ton in 2022 compared to 11.9 GJ/ton in 2021.
Additionally, the reduction in air pollution is experienced by the residents of Obi Island through the development of a half-kilometer-long belt conveyor as a means of transporting production output. The utilization of this conveyor belt will decrease the use of heavy vehicles, thereby reducing the consumption of polluting fossil fuels.
Moreover, the dust produced by heavy vehicles will also decrease with the implementation of this system.
NCKL has also repurposed the by-products of the RKEF smelter process into artificial coral reefs, bricks, tetrapods, precast box culverts, and road coatings. Meanwhile, the residual products from the HPAL processing are reintegrated into former mining pits.
Furthermore, the widespread use of electric batteries has led to an increased demand for nickel. Despite this, NCKL is committed to developing the downstream nickel industry while maintaining a focus on environmental sustainability.
According to S&P Commodity Insight data, global nickel demand is expected to continue rising until 2027, with Indonesia's nickel contributing over 40%. This trend aligns with the world's commitment to shift towards electric vehicle batteries to reduce carbon emissions.

Sustainability Project: Downstream Nickel Through HPAL Smelters

TBP is also concentrating on the development of HPAL plants, which directly impact the electric vehicle battery industry. This project generates mixed hydroxide precipitate (MHP), a crucial component in the production of electric vehicle batteries.
The company's prospectus notes that the HPAL Phase I and II projects consist of two production lines for nickel-cobalt compounds. This project can be utilized to produce MHP, a key raw material for the cathode precursor of electric vehicle batteries.
The company continues its development of the HPAL smelter, anticipated to commence operations in 2024 with an estimated total production capacity of 61-66 thousand tons. Nevertheless, the company's nickel production provides an opportunity to boost ore sales volume to meet the increased production capacity.
It's noteworthy that the HPAL plant boasts advantages in energy efficiency and lower carbon emissions compared to RKEF technology. This will have a positive impact on the environment and address the growing demand for environmentally friendly batteries.

NCKL Receives Most Sustainable Nickel Company Award

Bisnis.com, NORTH MALUKU - PT Trimegah Bangun Persada Tbk (NCKL) or Harita Nickel continues to strive for effective and efficient energy usage in the company's nickel processing process.
Harita Nickel's Head of Technical Support, Rico Windy Albert, stated that an example of optimal energy usage in the company's production facilities has been implemented in one of its subsidiary's nickel smelters, namely PT Halmahera Jaya Feronikel (HJF).
This smelter processes high grade nickel ore or saprolite into ferronickel using a pyrometallurgical processing system called the Rotary Kiln Electric Furnace (RKEF). Rico mentioned that to support the operation of this smelter, the company has 4 units of steam power plants, each generating 150 megawatts of electricity for a total of 600 megawatts.
"The energy generated by these steam power plants uses coal gasification, which makes the combustion cleaner," said Rico when interviewed by the EV Exploration team in Kawasi, Obi Island, North Maluku. He explained that the efficiency of energy use in the production process is achieved by applying a heat recovery system at each stage of ferronickel production.
He explained that the heat recovery system was implemented to effectively utilize all the energy generated by coal gasification in the steam power plant (PLTU).
He explained that the excess heat generated in the process of melting nickel ore in the electric furnace would be used in the previous production stage, namely calcination in the rotary kiln. Subsequently, the excess heat in the calcination process would also be used in the earlier stage of ferronickel production, namely the drying of nickel ore.
In addition, the HJF smelter has a water management system that can be reused in the production process. "We have a reservoir that collects rainwater and water from nickel processing; we pump it until it can be used in the smelter, so nothing is wasted," Rico said.
Separately, Harita Nickel's Environmental Superintendent, Indra Maizar, explained that the company has a specific water management system for the purposes of nickel production activities. Indra mentioned that Harita Nickel has two special ponds designed to collect rainwater and water from production activities at the smelter.
He explained that the rainwater collected in these ponds is pumped to the company's smelter facility for use in the production process. The wastewater from the production activities is then returned to another pond for storage. "This water is later pumped to the smelter for reuse in the nickel processing process," Indra said.
