Harita Nickel continues to provide free medical check-ups and treatment to local residents in villages surrounding its mine. This event was held in Kawasi Village, located at SD Negeri 217 South Halmahera on Sunday (5/3/2023), presenting several medical specialists.

 Harita Nickel's Community Development Superintendent, Panji Setyadi, said that the free medical check-up and treatment services are part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program in healthcare which has been routinely carried out by the company in several villages around the mine.
According to him, this activity aims to improve the quality of residents' health and provide easier access for the community to a specialist doctor.
"In Kawasi itself, there is only a Village Maternity Clinic (Polindes) with a general practitioner. So in this activity, we brought in several specialists including pediatricians and internal medicine specialists to conduct examinations and treatment for residents who have medical problems," said Panji.
In addition, Panji hoped that this event could raise awareness of the importance of maintaining health, especially for children and the elderly who are at risk of suffering from internal diseases.
He also revealed that in this event, Harita Nickel collaborated with the Health Office, Puskesmas, and Obi Regional Hospital, as well as Labuha Hospital. It is expected to create a harmonious synergy in providing health services to the community through partnerships with relevant stakeholders.
Meanwhile, Dr. Azhar K Hernus sp.A, a pediatrician invited by Harita Nickel exclusively in Kawasi Village explained, the majority of pediatric patients who came were found with respiratory problems and diarrhea.
"If we look at the pattern of diseases in Halmahera, the majority of children we find with respiratory infections. Not even a few children suffer from Tuberculosis (TB) which is most likely triggered by transmission from their parents or neighbors," he explained.
Dr. Azhar also explained other than respiratory infections, diarrhea is the next health problem that is often suffered by children. This is often triggered by unhealthy lifestyles, such as poor sanitation.
On the other hand, internal medicine specialist, Dr. Raditia Reza Ramadoni, Sp.PD explained that most Kawasi residents over 40 years old suffer from diabetes, high blood pressure, and cholesterol problems. According to him, this is triggered by the habit of consuming unhealthy food and drinks. Such as excessive sugary drinks and oily food.
The free medical check-up and treatment service that has become a routine program of Harita Nickel received a warm welcome from the local community.
The Chairman of the Village Consultative Body (BPD) of Kawasi Village, Reinhar Siar, expressed his support for the company's initiative. He hopes that such programs can be maintained to ensure that the community has access to quality health services on an ongoing basis.

Harita Nickel Invites Specialist Doctors to Kawasi for Free Medical Treatment

Hundreds of Kawasi villagers, Obi sub-district, South Halmahera, came to the low-cost grocery bazaar held by Harita Nickel. They were excited to buy basic food packages prepared by a nickel mining and downstream company operating in their village.

As a result, as many as 600 food packages provided by Harita Nickel were completely purchased by residents in just a few hours after the bazaar opened, Friday (3/3/2023) morning.

Umi Siar, one of the residents at the bazaar location, said she was happy to have access to groceries at low prices. According to her, this bazaar activity is very helpful for the residents, considering that the current food prices are quite expensive.

"Alhamdulillah, with this bazaar, we are greatly benefited because we are able to obtain a complete set of groceries at low prices," said Umi.&nbsp;

Like other residents, Umi hopes that this program can be sustained so that people have easier access to basic necessities at affordable prices.&nbsp;

The program, which was initiated by Harita Nickel's Community Relations and Community Development, aims to alleviate the villagers' burden on the high price of food in the market today.&nbsp;

Andri Rudiarto, Community Relations Superintendent Harita Nickel, explained the grocery package contains 5 kg of rice, 5 packs of instant noodles, 1 kg of sugar, 1 kg of flour, 1 liter of cooking oil, and tea. It is said that the local people can get the complete basic food package for only Rp 50,000.&nbsp;

"This event aims to help Kawasi villagers fulfill their daily food needs," said Andri.

Furthermore, Andri explained that the current bazaar targeted residents of Kawasi Village who needed a cheap food supply. The bazaar was held at two points, on the north and south sides of Kawasi Village, with a total of 600 food packages.

Kawasi Residents Enthusiastically Welcome Harita Nickel's Low-Cost Grocery Bazaar

Harita Nickel makes various efforts to deal with waste problems in Kawasi Village by providing facilities and infrastructure and inviting people to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

Kawasi is a small village located on Obi Island, South Halmahera, North Maluku, which is close to the operational site of a nickel mining and downstream company, Harita Nickel. Its location next to the coast makes this small village an outstanding natural scenery.

However, waste issues have become a 'stumbling block' that makes the scenery of Kawasi Village increasingly difficult to enjoy. In fact, this village is one of the economic centers on Obi Island. Many newcomers settle and run businesses in this village. The majority of the migrants come from Java Island, which captures a promising business opportunity provided by the existence of mining companies.
The waste problem in Kawasi Village has actually been around for a long time. Even before Harita Group's mining company set foot on Obi Island. This has become a homework assignment for the village government as well as the companies operating around Kawasi Village.
The people's awareness towards environmental cleanliness is still fairly weak. This frequently causes problems with the village's waterways. Not surprisingly, the village is subject to flooding during the rainy season.
It doesn't stop there. Piles of stagnant garbage also cause serious problems for the environment and the health of residents. From polluted water conditions to health problems caused by the massive growth of mosquito larvae and bacteria around areas exposed to waste pollution.
Asmawati, one of the natives of Kawasi Village, explained that prior to the company, local residents often littered.
"Sometimes it was thrown into the river, sometimes into the sea. Some we also burned," she explained.
However, destroying waste by burning is still considered less than optimal to reduce pollution in Kawasi Village. The small village, which is now inhabited by more than 1,100 people, produces a massive amount of waste.
"For now, the company's efforts include the transportation of waste using trucks every two days a week," said Eko Sulistyo, CSR Community Development Supervisor.
Furthermore, Eko explained that in single transportation, the total waste hauled from Kawasi Village can reach 2 tons per day. Such a large amount of waste is then taken to the landfill located about 20 minutes from the village.
"Alhamdulillah, since the company's regular waste transportation program, the village environment has become cleaner and more comfortable," said Asmawati.
The company has also made efforts to provide trash cans in every corner of Kawasi Village. This will facilitate the process of transporting waste and make it easier for residents to dispose of waste in its place.
In addition to providing facilities and infrastructure, Harita Nickel through some of its business units also continues to make various efforts to raise residents' awareness to the importance of environmental cleanliness. Among them are through regular activities, including a social service entitled "Healthy and Clean Lifestyle" which was held during the K3 month commemoration period on January 12 - February 12, 2023.
The activity involved employees, village officials, TNI/Police, and also local residents. Everyone worked together to clean up the trash scattered around the coast and Kawasi Village.
It is hoped that through activities initiated by the Company, people will be encouraged to play an active role in preserving their environment by adopting a healthy and clean lifestyle.

Keep The Environment Clean, Harita Nickel Supports Kawasi Village Government Tackle Waste Problem

Harita Nickel's compassionate care for local communities around its mine has lifted the spirits of local residents. Among them is a woman in Kawasi Village who serves as a beach cleaner as well as being the backbone of her family.
LIS KOTEN (40 years old) was picking up trash along the beach when Harita Nickel's Community Relations team visited her house in RT 2 Kawasi Village, Obi Subdistrict, South Halmahera. She ran hurriedly from the beach behind her house to welcome the guests who came that afternoon, on Saturday, April 3, 2023.
Rita, a company representative who came along with the head of BPD and RT of Kawasi village, immediately greeted the host. Once she had conveyed the purpose of her visit, Rita handed over a sack containing 25 kilograms of rice.
"Thank you; I owe a lot of gratitude to Harita," Lis said repeatedly, his eyes glazing over.
In the narrow wooden house, Lis lives with her four children. The youngest child is 6 years old. Her husband, meanwhile, has been sick and bedridden for the past few years.
<img alt="Harita peduli web" src="https://api.tbpnickel.com/storage/images/old/images/harita peduli_web.jpg">
"Thank you, the company, for giving me a job and rice," she said, wiping the sweat from her exhausted face.
Indeed, since her husband could no longer work due to illness, Lis has become the backbone of her family. Lis is thankful that the company gave her a job as a cleaning worker around Kawasi Beach, together with other local women.
"I pray for Harita to keep growing and progressing so that it can further help the people here," she said sincerely, before the company's team departed to distribute aid to other residents.
 THE MOTHER of the Kawasi beach clean worker as well as the guardian of her family's economy was one of 70 residents who were beneficiaries of the Harita Peduli program held in Kawasi Village.
A number of personnel from Harita Nickel's Community Relations team, accompanied by local village government officials, visited one by one the homes of residents who had been identified to hand over the donation.
Andri Rudiarto, Community Relation Superintendent Harita Nickel explained that Harita Peduli is part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program carried out routinely by the company in a number of villages around the mine.
He said Harita Nickel's CSR program covers various fields. From economic, health, and education to sociocultural sectors. In this recent Harita Peduli activity, he explained, the company targeted underprivileged and elderly residents.
<img alt="Harita peduli 2 web" src="https://api.tbpnickel.com/storage/images/old/images/harita peduli 2_web.jpg">
"In this activity, the target is underprivileged residents and elderly people. The rice distributed is purchased by the company from the local residents," explained Andri.
Furthermore, in addition to distributing rice aid, Harita Nickel also held several social services in Kawasi Village in the first week of March 2023. Among them are a cheap grocery bazaar and free medical treatment.
Happily, the various programs implemented by Harita Nickel received appreciation from the Kawasi Village government.
Accompanied by the head of the local RT, Kawasi Village BPD Chairman Reinhar Siar said the company's programs and assistance have been beneficial to the people in his village.
"We are very grateful to Harita Group for caring about the community. Hopefully, Harita will keep growing and work together with the village government to improve people's welfare in Kawasi Village," he said.

Harita Nickel Lifts the Spirit of a Kawasi Coast Guard Mother

Harita Nickel's real contribution in supporting the Government of South Halmahera's development program, especially in the Obi sub-district, has gained trust and support from the concerned stakeholders.
It was raining that morning in Laiwui village, the capital of Obi District, South Halmahera Regency. However, hundreds of residents still seemed enthusiastic about participating in the handover ceremony as well as the inauguration of the Obi Sub-district office and sea ambulance donation, on Sunday (5/3/2023).
South Halmahera Regent H Usman Sidik expressed his gratitude to Harita Nickel for assisting in constructing the Obi Sub-district office and providing a sea ambulance for the local community.
"Obi Sub-district Office is arguably the most luxurious sub-district office in South Halmahera, even in North Maluku. For that, on behalf of the South Halmahera Regency Government and the community, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Harita. This is very extraordinary, all community concerns are always supported by Harita Nickel," Usman said, applauded by the audience.
After being inaugurated, Regent Usman said he would often come to Obi District. The Regent will even make the Obi Sub-district office his second office during his visit to the oldest sub-district on Obi Island. Yes, on the 2nd floor of the new Obi District office building, there is a special room to be used as the workspace of the South Halmahera Regent.
"Harita is amazing, today we are able to see the sub-district office. Harita even had the idea to add a sea ambulance. This is because so far, people who want to give birth, arrive in the middle of the sea, and die when they get to Labuha," he continued.
The Regent further revealed that Harita Nickel's contribution to development in the region was not only given once. He said the company has also been assisting the community's basic needs in Obi Subdistrict which can now benefit from 24-hour electricity.
The company, through its Community Development and Empowerment (PPM) program, has assisted various community enterprises. In agriculture, for example, the company assists farmer groups with seeds, and fertilizers, including maintenance patterns. This is expected to increase rice crop yields. He said these efforts have helped the local government anticipate global economic conditions.
Harita Nickel's commitment to supporting the local government's development program has been demonstrated by real contributions and its impact has been widely perceived by the community. According to the Regent, this has made people's attitudes more enthusiastic in welcoming the company's activities.
"Once again, everything Harita has done is amazing. I am not flattering, but this is the reality. For example, this sub-district office and sea ambulance are the evidence. I don't have to deal with anything, if the company is wrong I will remind them, but so far Harita has been outstanding," he said.
Meanwhile, Director of External Relations of PT Trimegah Bangun Persada (PT TBP), Stevi Thomas stated that the construction of the Obi Sub-district office by Harita Nickel is one manifestation of the company's support for the South Halmahera Regency Government in order to improve services to local communities.
" We hope that with the operation of this Obi Sub-District Office, it can support the government in terms of providing administrative services to the local people," said Stevi.
Stevi also emphasized that sea ambulance assistance was delivered to help improve and speed up health services for Obi residents. This means of transportation is a complement to Harita Nickel's contribution to supporting health services on Obi Island.
"These assistances can be considered as our support for the Government of South Halmahera Regency in an effort to improve services to the community," said Stevi.
<img alt="Ambulance1" src="https://api.tbpnickel.com/storage/images/old/images/Ambulance1.png">
Previously in November 2022, Harita Nickel also handed over the assistance of 1 unit of a Fire Extinguisher (Damkar) fleet and 1 unit of a Garbage Collection truck fleet worth Rp 2 billion to the Government of South Halmahera Regency.
Stevi added, 1 week earlier (1/3) Harita Nickel Community Development Team with fostered farmers in Buton Village also conducted a rice harvest. Through the Obi Food Security Center (SENTANI) program, farmers have harvested twice with yields increasing 5 times compared to before.
"This is something we need to be very grateful for amidst the threat of the world food crisis," said Stevi.
Support for the community certainly does not stop there. In addition to facilities and infrastructure, assistance and support in terms of health, education, and other programs in the economic, infrastructure, and sociocultural fields, Harita Nickel continues to do.
The company's support for society certainly does not end here. In addition to facilities and infrastructure, Harita Nickel continues to provide assistance and support in terms of health, education, and other programs in the economic, infrastructure, and socio-cultural sectors.
Stevi emphasized that the success of various kinds of Community Empowerment & Development (PPM) programs is certainly not just because of Harita Nickel, but thanks to the support of various parties, especially good cooperation with the community and assistance from the South Halmahera Regency Government.
"All of this of course can be realized thanks to the synergy with the local government for one purpose, which is the community's welfare. Thank you once again for this," said Stevi.

Harita Nickel Gelar Roadshow Rekrutmen untuk Serap Tenaga Kerja Lokal

Ternate, a city located in North Maluku Province, covers an area of 5,795.4 km². It once served as the temporary capital of North Maluku from 1999 until 2010, before the capital officially moved to Sofifi in the Tidore Islands on August 4th, 2010.
Despite its size, Ternate is rich in history. From the legacy of the Sultanate to the island’s significance in the spice trade, Ternate has also been shaped by the frequent eruptions of Mount Gamalama, an active volcano that continues to loom large over the island.

Historical records show that Mount Gamalama has erupted several times over the centuries, with one of the most significant eruptions occurring in 1673, when lava flowed all the way to the coastline. Evidence of this can still be seen today in the Batu Angus area, located in Kulaba Village on the western side of Ternate. Batu Angus, which translates as “burnt rock,” is now a popular tourist attraction and a designated Geo Park.

The area is characterised by vast stretches of blackened rock, which appear scorched and reach from the base of Mount Gamalama down to the sea, covering an area of roughly 17 hectares. Batu Angus has become a favourite destination not only for local tourists but also for international visitors, who consider it a must-see when travelling to Ternate.

<img alt="Img 20221225 151222" src="https://api.tbpnickel.com/storage/images/old/news_assets/IMG_20221225_151222.png" style="cursor: pointer; max-width: 100%; height: auto;">

For those looking to explore Batu Angus, it’s a short 10-kilometre journey from the city centre, easily accessible by car or motorbike. Entry fees are affordable, with visitors on foot paying around 7,000 rupiah, while cars are charged between 14,000 and 20,000 rupiah.

In recent years, the local government has made efforts to enhance the site’s appeal by improving infrastructure such as roads and gazebos. However, visitors have expressed a desire for more facilities, particularly food stalls, as there are currently none available in the area, meaning tourists need to bring their own refreshments.

“The views here at Batu Angus are stunning, with the black rocks forming pyramid-like structures, interspersed with small green trees. It’s truly breathtaking, especially with Mount Gamalama in the background and the sea nearby,” said Maya, a recent visitor. “But it would be great if there were some food stalls, as there’s nowhere to get a meal.”

Aldi Marto, who works at the Batu Angus site, mentioned that the area is consistently busy with tourists. “We see hundreds of visitors every day, whether it’s a weekend or a weekday,” he said.

Looking ahead, the Ternate City Government has ambitious plans for the area. Rustam Mahli, Head of the City’s Tourism Office, explained that by 2023, Batu Angus will be officially designated as a Geo Tourism site. This project is being developed in collaboration with Ternate’s Regional Research and Development Agency (Balitbangda) and the North Maluku Geology Experts Association.

In addition to this designation, several new facilities are planned for the site, including food stalls, improved lighting, better roads leading to the beach, and a geo-tourism museum. “These developments will allow visitors to enjoy Batu Angus well into the evening, while also contributing to the region’s economic growth,” Rustam added.

The Tourism Office has also set up Tourism Awareness Groups (Pokdarwis) in each district with tourist attractions, helping to promote and manage these sites, with the aim of boosting the local economy and enhancing the overall visitor experience in Ternate.

Discovering Batu Angus

Menurut Arifin, jumlah kendaraan di Indonesia mencapai lebih dari 140 juta unit. Kendaraan roda dua (motor), mendominasi dengan jumlah sekitar 120 juta unit. Sebagai informasi, pada roadmap transisi energi untuk mencapai NZE, pemerintah menargetkan pada tahap 2021-2025, jumlah kendaraan listrik 300.000 unit mobil dan 1,3 juta unit motor. Sedangkan pada tahap 2026-2030, jumlah kendaraan listrik ditargetkan 2 juta unit mobil dan 13 juta unit motor.&nbsp;
Sejalan dengan hal ini, Harita Nickel sebagai salah satu perusahaan yang bergerak di industri pertambangan dan hilirisasi nikel di Pulau Obi turut serta berkontribusi dalam mewujudkan nol emisi karbon yang diharapkan oleh pemerintah.&nbsp;
PT HPL Optimalkan Produksi
PT HPL lanjut Rico telah menerapkan beberapa upaya yang ramah lingkungan lain seperti dengan penggunaan solar panel di sekitar&nbsp;
PT TBP Dukung NZE dengan 3 Prinsip Utama&nbsp;
Sementara itu lini bisnis Harita Nickel di bidang pertambangan PT Trimegah Bangun Persada (PT TBP) telah melakukan beberapa langkah mendukung realisasi net zero emission. Deputy Head of Site PT Trimegah Bangun Persada&nbsp;
PT MSP Siap Dukung Transisi Energi
Sementara itu, salah satu perusahaan smelter feronikel milik Harita Nickel, PT Megah Surya Pertiwi (MSP) juga menyatakan kesiapannya untuk mendukung upaya pemerintah dalam menciptakan nol emisi karbon. Sejak tahun 2017 lalu, PT MSP telah menjalankan program penghematan energi dengan menekan penggunaan kertas, air, dan listrik di sekitar area perusahaan.&nbsp;
Head of Technical Support Department PT MSP Willy K Dewadi mengungkapkan, PT MSP sedang melakukan uji coba pemanfaatan limbah domestik berupa minyak jelantah dalam aplikasi teknologi pirometalurgi Rotary Kiln Electric Furnace (RKEF).&nbsp;
Stevi mengungkapkan di PT TBP telah dilakukan sejumlah kajian untuk mengantisipasi dampak emisi Gas Rumah Kaca (GRK) yang timbul dari setiap tahap proses penambangan. Menurut Stevi, dampak perubahan iklim dari kegiatan pertambangan berasal dari perubahan lahan dan penggunaan energi fosil untuk pengoperasian alat berat dan peralatan pertambangan.&nbsp;

The sun rises on the eastern horizon, casting a reddish hue across the morning sky. At the Harita Nickel mining site on Obi Island, South Halmahera, a bespectacled woman emerges from the PT Megah Surya Pertiwi (MSP) mess area. Dressed in a neat uniform, her eyes gaze up at the morning sky, full of hope that her activities today will contribute to a lasting legacy.<o:p></o:p>
Her name is Windy Ashari. She is a key figure behind the empowerment of village communities, located near the Harita Nickel mine and operating in the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises sector (MSME). Working through a mentoring program she and her colleagues have implemented, Windy plays a crucial role in helping communities here become more economically independent.<o:p></o:p>
Born in Banyuwangi on October 30, 1993, Ashari has been pursuing her career at Harita Nickel since September 2019. She currently serves as the Small &amp; Medium Enterprise Foreman in the Community Development Department. One of her duties is to participate in the company's Community Empowerment and Development (PPM) program.<o:p></o:p>
For Windy, working at Harita Nickel is a source of pride. Moreover, as a woman, she is proud to support the empowerment of other women in her village. She has long been interested in community service; throughout her career, she has been learning new ways help develop the potential of local residents.<o:p></o:p>
Windy, who is also an avid reader, has long desired a job outside her native Java. It's no surprise that Windy feels so comfortable devoting herself to her career on Obi Island – she believes that working outside Java has provided her with numerous lessons and insights into culture and diversity.<o:p></o:p>

Windy is rightly proud of her hard work in mentoring, which has already delivered tangible results. In Kawasi Village, the mentoring of MSMEs has boosted the income of local residents.<o:p></o:p>
Through banana chips, for example, the company generates a monthly turnover of IDR 15-20 million. Furthermore, Windy explains that the company also has a minimarket, called Hopmart, which helps distribute Kawasi Village MSME products to employees. Its turnover alone can reach IDR 170-200 million per month.&nbsp;<o:p></o:p>
There's also Nyala Cafe, a favorite hangout spot for Harita Nickel employees, managed by MSMEs and comprised of women in Kawasi Village. Nyala Cafe's monthly turnover can reach IDR 15-20 million. This revenue has undoubtedly helped many residents financially, as a direct result of the company's presence.<o:p></o:p>
Several Harita Nickel-assisted MSMEs now even employ employees, thus contributing not only to the economy but also to the creation of jobs for the village residents.<o:p></o:p>
Windy's enthusiasm is growing. Her hard work in mentoring has not been in vain. Furthermore, she hopes that the various efforts she has undertaken with the Harita Nickel Community Development team can become sustainable programs in the future.<o:p></o:p>
"Our hope is that in the future, residents can continue to develop their local potential even after the company is no longer operating," says Windy. She also hopes that the company's programs will contribute to the advancement of entrepreneurship and encourage residents to build broader business networks. In addition, Windy also hopes that residents living around the mine will become role models for the entire community on Obi Island.<o:p></o:p>

<h2 class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; line-height: 1.5; background: white; border: none; padding: 0cm; text-align: justify;">Utilize local potential around the mine<o:p></o:p></h2>
According to Windy, community development is rooted in local potential, which can then be harnessed and turned into economic value. In Kawasi Village, where Harita Nickel operates, for example, bananas are a local resource that has not been widely utilized by residents.<o:p></o:p>
Through the Community Development program, bananas in Kawasi Village are transformed into chips, which are then distributed to the company. This has been proven to support financial independence for housewives in Kawasi, with at least a dozen women benefiting from this banana chip production mentoring program.<o:p></o:p>
In addition to Kawasi Village, Windy and the Community Development team are also working on women's economic empowerment in other villages. For example, Soligi Village is utilizing soybeans as a local resource to increase their economic value. This is thanks to Soligi's relatively fertile soil, which is suitable for soybean cultivation; and the company's demand for end-products like tofu and tempeh, which is also quite high.<o:p></o:p>
Windy saw this as a golden opportunity to empower women in Soligi Village, who have been trained in planting and cultivation techniques for tofu and tempeh. Through this mentoring approach, Windy and the Harita Nickel Community Development team have successfully helped many housewives become more financially independent.<o:p></o:p>
Although Windy loves her current profession, she admits that she occasionally encounters challenges and obstacles. One of these is the remote location of Obi Island, which makes distribution of goods quite difficult. This often takes time and even results in product quality deteriorating due to the long journey.<o:p></o:p>

Nevertheless, thanks to the presence of a company with thousands of employees, distribution of local products has become easier. All products produced by residents can be distributed directly to the company, in line with established quality standards.
