Kawasi, September 21, 2025 – In commemoration of World Cleanup Day 2025, Harita Nickel employees collaborated with the Kawasi Village community in Obi District, South Halmahera, to carry out a joint waste cleanup activity. The initiative, held on Saturday, September 20, reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to environmental preservation and sustainable community development.
Employees from various business units, together with representatives from the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the Indonesian National Police (Polri), and local residents, joined in collecting plastic and other waste along the main road connecting the company’s area to Kawasi Village.
Ledrik Langkodi, Head of General Affairs of Kawasi Village, highlighted the importance of routine collaboration between the company and the community. “By making this a regular agenda, public awareness will grow, and participation in maintaining a clean environment will increase,” he said.

Multi-stakeholder collaboration is the key to keeping Kawasi Village green and preserved
Community member Nurja (50) also expressed appreciation for Harita Nickel’s support. “We are grateful not only for the cleanup, but also for the health education and checkups provided for mothers and children. Health is the most valuable gift, and it must be protected,” she said.
According to Harita Nickel’s Community Affairs General Manager, Dindin Makinudin, the cleanup was part of a broader series of World Cleanup Day activities themed “Towards a Clean Indonesia 2029.” The program included environmental competitions in Kawasi’s old and new settlements, food package distribution, health education and checkups, and concluded with the joint cleanup.
“Through this momentum, we encourage the community to maintain environmental cleanliness not only today but as a continuous effort,” said Dindin.
From the cleanup, 4.5 tons of waste–primarily plastic–were collected and transported to company-managed facilities. Harita Nickel also promotes waste management education using the 3R approach (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) for local students, including initiatives to repurpose plastic bottles for planting media and apply circular economy practices such as converting plastic waste into fuel for operations.

Harita Nickel also distributed 380 basic food packages to the people of Kawasi Village.
In addition, the company distributed 380 food packages and facilitated health programs benefiting 38 parents and 49 students as part of its Community Development and Empowerment Program (PPM).
These initiatives underscore Harita Nickel’s strong commitment to environmental stewardship and community well-being. In 2024, the company recorded a Community Satisfaction Index (IKM) score of 89 and an average Social Return on Investment (SROI) of 2.62.
