PT Trimegah Bangun Persada (TBP) Tbk, also known as Harita Nickel, held a tree planting event on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, to commemorate World Environment Day. The event, titled “A Journey to a Greener Future,” was attended by 50 employees from various departments and contractor representatives.
Irgi Ahmad Sahresi, Chairman of the World Environment Day Committee, said the tree planting event was held in a ex mining area within the company's operations. The goal is to restore the land to its original condition.
“Over 150 tree seedlings were planted across this 0.5 hectare plot, with various species including jabon merah (Neolamarckia macrophylla), Australian pine (Casuarina equisetifolia), eucalyptus, and several local trees. These species were selected for their suitability to the soil conditions of the ex mining area,” he explained.
Irgi further elaborated that World Environment Day was celebrated with various other activities in addition to tree planting. These began with an environmental discussion on May 25 and continued with cleanliness and creativity competitions among employee dormitories.
"These efforts aim to raise employee awareness about the importance of environmental care. This initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability, not just a one-time event," he emphasized.
For World Environment Day 2024, Harita Nickel and its business units on Obi Island organized various activities. Along with PT Trimegah Bangun Persada, other units like PT Halmahera Persada Lygend and PT Halmahera Jaya Feronikel held similar events. These activities involved employees, local students, and university experts, showcasing the company's commitment to environmental sustainability.
