Harita Nickel Distributes 34 Sacrificial Animals and Empower Local Breeders in Obi Island

PT Trimegah Bangun Persada Tbk (NCKL) atau Harita Nickel menyalurkan bantuan hewan kurban sebanyak 31 ekor sapi dan 3 ekor kambing dalam rangka merayakan Idul Adha 1444 H / 2023 M. Sebagian besar dari hewan kurban tersebut diserahkan ke desa sekitar operasional perusahaan di Pulau Obi.

Head of Community Affairs Harita Nickel, Latif Supriadi said that distribution of sacrificial animals is routinely carried out every year as a manifestation of gratitude and concern for Harita Nickel to local communities around its operations.

He explained, the entire sacrificial animal donation had been distributed prior to Eid al-Adha 1444 H which falls on Thursday, June 29, 2023. To empower local communities' economy, he emphasized, sacrificial animals were purchased by the company from local breeders.

"Through this Eid al-Adha celebration, it is hoped that people especially around the company's operations can directly benefit from Harita Nickel's operations and strengthen ties between company and community," said Latif, Thursday (29/6/2023).

The distribution of sacrificial animals from Harita Nickel for mining villages in Obi Subdistrict was carried out simultaneously in Lauwui Village, handed over to the village priest and witnessed by the respective village governments and sub-district heads


Harita Nickel's Community Relations Manager, Apolinavis F Mbata explained in more detail the distribution of sacrificial animals. From a total of 34 sacrificial animals, most of them were distributed to villages around Harita Nickel's operations in Obi Island. A total of 18 villages across three sub-districts in Obi Island, each received one cow.

"The sacrificial animals were handed over directly to Imams as Islamic religious leaders in each village, witnessed by local village government officials," he explained.

Meanwhile, 16 other sacrificial animals were distributed to several areas in North Maluku. Among them in Labuha, a capital city of South Halmahera Regency and Ternate City. Animal distribution was carried out by cooperating with a number of company partners, from government agencies, student organizations to media organizations.

Harita Nickel's concern for the community, especially in Obi Island, received appreciation from both government and local religious leaders.

Obi Sub-district Head, represented by Secretary Risno Tjia, in his speech on sacrificial animal ceremony in his area which was concentrated in Laiwui Village, expressed his gratitude to Harita Nickel. He encouraged that well established cooperation between company and community can continue to be improved.

"We thank you for the donation provided by Harita Nickel for all village communities in Obi Subdistrict. We hope this sacrificial animal donation can be useful for residents who are entitled to receive and need it," Risno said.

The same appreciation was also conveyed by the village government and religious leaders in South Obi Subdistrict. Gambaru Village Head, through Village Secretary Imanuel Sousa, said that sacrificial animal donation delivered by Harita Nickel is a manifestation of the company's concern for local people in Obi Island.

"On behalf of village government and the entire Gambaru village community, we support company operations. We hope that the company's presence will be able to support village government programs to improve people's welfare here," he said, agreed by Gambaru Village Imam, Guntur Flori.

As information, PT Trimegah Bangun Persada Tbk through its subsidiary PT Halmahera Persada Lygend (PT HPL) has officially operated a nickel sulfate plant and successfully conducted its first export on June 16, 2023. The plant that produces core material for making electric vehicle batteries is the first in Indonesia and the largest in the world.
