Harita Nickel partnered with local fishermen through the 2026 Soligi Fishing Festival to help strengthen the coastal economy on Obi Island while supporting locally sourced food supplies for company operations.
The event, held on May 2–3, 2026, involved 20 participants, all of whom were residents and fishermen from Soligi Village in South Obi District, South Halmahera Regency.
More than just a competition, the festival also served as a platform for collaboration between the company and the local community in supporting the sustainable use of local marine resources.
During the festival, participants landed a total catch of 21.6 kilograms of fish. The largest catch was a 6.1-kilogram Giant Trevally, locally known as Bobara.
All catches were purchased directly by the company through the Sentra Usaha Tani Nelayan (SUTAN) program. The initiative allows the company to purchase catches directly from local fishermen to support fish supplies for its operational canteens.
Manihadi, one of the participants from Soligi, welcomed the initiative. He said the festival provided direct economic benefits for local fishermen while also strengthening collaboration between the community and the company.
“Events like this are very meaningful for us fishermen. Not only do they motivate us, but our catches are also purchased directly, so the economic benefits are truly felt by the community,” he said.
For the company, the Soligi Fishing Festival forms part of its broader effort to strengthen community-based economic development while fostering closer engagement with communities surrounding its operational areas.
“This festival reflects tangible collaboration between the company and the community. We want to ensure that the social programs we implement provide direct and sustainable benefits for coastal communities,” said Nasrudin S. Hi Ali from Harita Nickel’s Community Development team.
Going forward, the Soligi Fishing Festival is expected to continue supporting coastal livelihoods and the long-term sustainability of local fishermen in the Obi region.
