South Halmahera, October 22, 2025 — Harita Nickel reaffirms its commitment to sustainable development by supporting the agricultural sector on Obi Island, South Halmahera Regency. Through the SENTANI program (Obi Food Security Center), the company continues to promote food resilience and improve the economic welfare of communities within its operational area.
To support this initiative, Harita Nickel collaborated with the Obi Subdistrict Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimcam), the Obi Agricultural Extension Center (BPP), Brimob Company 3 Battalion C, and the Buton Village Government to carry out a joint rice planting activity across 10.5 hectares of farmland in Buton Village, Obi District. The activity, which involved two farmer groups under the company’s guidance, symbolizes the synergy between the private sector, government, and local communities in strengthening regional food security.
Harita Nickel’s Community Affairs General Manager, Dindin Makinudin, explained that SENTANI is part of the company’s Community Development and Empowerment Program (PPM), designed as a center for sustainable agricultural development. The program provides cultivation guidance, infrastructure and facility support, as well as market access for local farmers.
“We hope SENTANI can serve as a model for sustainable agriculture that delivers tangible benefits to the community. Harita Nickel will continue to accompany farmers so that their results can contribute directly to regional economic growth,” said Dindin.
He added that Harita Nickel’s commitment to community empowerment also extends to other sectors such as education, health, infrastructure, and socio-cultural development.
“We want the people of Obi to be resilient not only in food security, but also ready to seize economic opportunities in various sectors,” he added.
The Obi Subdistrict Government expressed its appreciation for Harita Nickel’s initiative, noting its broad social and economic impact.
“SENTANI strengthens the spirit of collaboration and cross-sector cooperation. It is a concrete example of synergy between the company, the government, and the community,” said Ahmad Siombiwi, a representative of the Obi Subdistrict Government.
Meanwhile, Anwar La Jumani, Head of the Batu Putih Farmers Group, shared the tangible benefits of the SENTANI program. The company’s support includes the provision of seeds, fertilizers, plowing machines, and training.
“Since Harita Nickel began assisting us, farmers’ enthusiasm has increased because we feel supported and guided,” he said.
The SENTANI program currently involves 30 active members, consisting of farmer groups, the village-owned enterprise (BUMDes), and the Buton Village Government. Previously, Harita Nickel’s assisted farmers received the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Sustainable Village Development (PDB) Awards 2024 from the Ministry of Villages, Development of Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration (Kemendes PDT) and the Indonesian Social Sustainability Forum (ISSF) for their contribution to strengthening village development through BUMDes-based initiatives.
In addition to SENTANI, Harita Nickel has implemented several other agricultural empowerment programs, including Salam Kawasi as an integrated agricultural learning center in Kawasi Village, Kabar Mapan in Baru Village, Impresif in Jikatamo Village, and Obi Sehati in South Obi District.
Through these initiatives, Harita Nickel demonstrates that industrial growth can go hand in hand with improving community welfare. Support for food security remains an essential part of the company’s commitment to fostering inclusive and sustainable economic growth on Obi Island.
