Harita Nickel made history as the first nickel mining and processing company to win the 2025 Green Innovation Award at the Asia Corporate Excellence & Sustainability (ACES) Awards. This international award is a form of recognition for the company's responsible operational practices on Obi Island, South Halmahera.

This prestigious award was given in recognition of Harita Nickel's breakthrough in transforming processing byproducts into value-added products. This innovation includes the utilization of nickel slag from ferronickel processing residues as raw material for construction, soil ameliorant for land rehabilitation, and artificial coral reefs that support marine ecosystem restoration.

The award trophy was received directly by Harita Nickel's Director of Health, Safety & Environment (HSE), Tonny Gultom, who was accompanied by Head of Corporate Communication, Haviez Gautama, and Green Mining Manager, Retno Dewi Handayani S.

Director of Health, Safety & Environment, Harita Nickel, Tonny Gultom, explained Harita Nickel’s commitment to the principles of responsible mining.

"Innovation does not happen overnight. This achievement is the result of a shared commitment to make the mining industry more responsible. This proves that our efforts to reduce environmental impact through the utilization of nickel slag are recognized at the regional level," said Tonny Gultom after receiving the award.

Harita Nickel's achievements at this event were further complemented by the company's strategic role in the ACES Summit 2025. At this forum, which brought together business leaders and sustainability practitioners from across Asia, Tonny Gultom was the only speaker from Indonesia at the session entitled "Futureproofing Your Organization: Are We Really Ready?"

In front of an international audience, Tonny explained how Harita Nickel does not merely extract minerals but creates economic and ecological circularity through the management of nickel slag from processing byproducts.

Alongside the other panelists, Tonny Gultom (third from left) presented the nickel slag utilization initiatives to an audience from across the Asia region.

"When talking about the future of the industry, we are not only talking about efficiency, but also sustainability. Harita Nickel is on the right track to become a company that grows while benefiting the surrounding ecosystem," Tonny emphasized in his presentation.

The awards and active participation in the two major ACES 2025 agendas reinforce Insan Harita's commitment to implementing Good Mining Practices, while strengthening the position of Indonesia's nickel industry on the regional and global sustainability map.

In line with this achievement, the President of the ACES Awards, Shanggari Balakrishnan, conveyed his appreciation to PT Trimegah Bangun Persada Tbk (Harita Nickel) for receiving the Green Innovation Award.

“Your efforts to strengthen independent assurance across Indonesia’s nickel value chain, as well as ecosystem restoration initiatives such as reef cubes, demonstrate innovation with tangible impact,” Shanggari stated in a written statement.

He also highlighted Harita Nickel’s position as the first mining company in Indonesia to voluntarily undergo an audit by The Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance (IRMA). “This step underscores Harita Nickel’s commitment to responsible and verifiable mining practices,” he added.
