Labuha, 22 December 2025 – Harita Nickel reaffirmed its commitment to human capital development through the awarding of the Harita Gemilang Scholarship 2025, held in Labuha, South Halmahera Regency. The program forms part of the Company’s ongoing Community Development and Empowerment Program (PPM) in the education sector, implemented sustainably as a strategic initiative to support human development in its operational areas.
In 2025, the Harita Gemilang Scholarship was awarded to 100 students from Obi Island who are currently pursuing higher education at various universities across Indonesia. All recipients were selected through a competitive process that took into account academic achievement, family economic conditions, and motivation to contribute to their home region in the future.
This initiative is particularly relevant in the context of human development in South Halmahera Regency. Based on official indicators, the region’s Human Development Index (HDI) stands at approximately 66.66, indicating that efforts to improve the quality of education, healthcare, and decent living standards remain key priorities in local development. This figure underscores the importance of cross-sector collaboration, including scholarship programs, as a strategic approach to expanding access to higher education and strengthening the capacity of the younger generation.
Harita Nickel’s Community Development Manager, Broto Suwarso, explained that the Harita Gemilang Scholarship is designed as a PPM intervention focused on long-term human development.
“The Harita Gemilang Scholarship is part of the Company’s social responsibility to support the improvement of human resource quality in communities surrounding our operations. We hope that scholarship recipients will complete their studies successfully and return to their villages to contribute to the development of Obi Island,” said Broto.
The program is implemented in collaboration with local governments, the Education Office, higher education institutions, and village administrations to ensure that it is well-targeted and sustainable.
He further emphasized that Harita Gemilang is not solely oriented toward financial assistance, but also toward sustainable impact.
“Through Harita Gemilang, we ensure targeted interventions through a selection process that considers academic performance and family background. The program is also accompanied by monitoring and evaluation to ensure that its benefits are felt over the long term,” he added.
In the same vein, a representative of the South Halmahera Regency Education Office, Fadli Kasuba, highlighted the important role of collaboration between government and the private sector in improving regional human resource quality.
“This scholarship assistance is highly meaningful, especially for students in island regions such as Obi Island, where access is limited. Through collaborations like this, young people continue to have opportunities to pursue higher levels of education,” he stated.
The Harita Gemilang Scholarship 2025 comprises three categories: Gemilang Prestasi, Gemilang Harapan Sarjana, and Gemilang Harapan Diploma, with individual scholarship values of IDR 15 million and IDR 10 million. The assistance is disbursed in a single stage to support students’ educational needs, including tuition fees (UKT), accommodation, and other academic requirements.
For the recipients, the scholarship serves not only as financial support but also as a source of motivation to continue striving for excellence. One recipient, Lista Bororing, a student from Air Mangga Village who is currently studying at Manado State University, shared that the scholarship has had a tangible impact on the continuity of her studies.
“With the scholarship from Harita Nickel, I feel greatly supported, especially in covering tuition fees, accommodation, and other academic needs. This assistance motivates me to complete my studies and later return to contribute to the development of my home region,” she said.
Through the Harita Gemilang Scholarship, Harita Nickel continues its commitment to human resource development that has been in place since 2024, strengthening it as a sustainable program aimed at delivering long-term benefits for the younger generation of Obi Island.
