Jakarta - Harita Nickel won the Excellence in Environment Video Content award at the Mata Lokal Awards during the Mata Lokal Fest 2024. This award was given for the company's success and commitment to environmental management and sustainable business practices through its nickel industry downstream program. Additionally, Harita Nickel is considered to have a positive impact on the local community and the national economy.
With the theme “Local Thriving in the Digital Era,” this annual event by Tribunnews aims to showcase more local stories.
“There are several components that the judges look at. Among them is how the brand solves problems with an engaging creative process. Next is interaction. How the brand can communicate with the locals and how the locals can communicate with the brand,” said Dian Gemiano, CMO of KG Media, who also served as one of the panel judges, in his speech.
The video titled “Dedikasi Untuk Lingkungan” (Dedication to the Environment) the fourth episode in Harita Nickel’s series “Ekspedisi Hilirisasi Anak Bangsa” (Expedition of the Nation’s Downstreaming), succeeded in captivating the panel of judges. It depicted sustainable and environmentally friendly mining practices, complemented by terrific collaboration with the local community to ensure that mining activities provide maximum benefits without damaging the environment.
This practice has been appreciated by several parties, including environmental activist from North Maluku, Usman Mansur, who believes that Harita Nickel plays a role in helping the education and economy sectors of the community around Obi Island.
Moreover, Marine Planktonlogy Expert, Prof. Dr. Ir. Inneke F. M. Rumengan, also stated that the ecological condition of the sea around Obi Island is quite stable and not under anthropogenic pressure, including from mining activities.
The Mata Lokal Award 2024 was presented directly by KG Media’s Chief of Revenue Officer, Moris Rusmanto, to Anie Rahmi, Corporate Affairs Manager of Harita Nickel.

Mata Lokal Fest 2024 by Tribunnews has become an important platform to appreciate initiatives like those undertaken by Harita Nickel. The event, attended by Indonesian Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno, Minister of Communication and Information Technology Budi Ari Setiadi, and Chairman of the Indonesian People’s Consultative Assembly Bambang Soesatyo, also serves as a moment to raise awareness about the importance of sustainability and collaboration between companies, government, and the community in maintaining environmental conservation amidst industrial development.
